So you're happy to add FTA metro to regional ratings because they are concurrent, and the NRLs FN FTA ratings from concurrent games, but not the AFLs concurrent payTV and FTA ratings.

Why is that? :-k

They are not games they are broadcasts. My point was that it is easy to ignore ratings just because they make my sport of choice look less relavent.

We could compare the ratings of non rep AFL matches with non rep NRL matches and there would barely be one ore two NRL matches in the top 20. You are just picking whatever criteria suits your sport better. At the end of the day most NRL fans are looking at the combined accumulated ratings. This year AFL will win at least in Australia and probabaly in Australia and NZ combined. Despite it being impossible to watch more then 6 AFL matches in most rounds.
I get what you saying Pies but you cant leave out rep games because the AFL don't have any, who fault is that? Certainly not the NRL. If anything the NRL comp suffers some what from these rep games ie, SOO, Tests, Four Nations, RLWC. So these ratings should be counted as rugby leagues strength and not discarded like they don't matter.

And on the issue of combined ratings, i have gone over the ratings this year and the AFL is tracking at about 160million or there abouts. The NRL is tracking any wear from 155 to 165Million.
The real exciting part for NRL fans and rugby league fans is next year. With 1 extra FTA game every week, 3 live games on FTA 1 delayed, and 8 games on FOX the accumulative ratings for rugby league will be anywhere from 190m - 210m. Add in another 2 teams and its no contest. :D Good time to be a rugby league fan.

All FTA - prety staight forward.

All PTV - once again, no trickery there!

The rep games should not be included, because it gives thugby an unrealistic ratings advantage and an unrealistic indication of support. I've always said that thugby's big problem and the threat to it's existence is it's poor club support. That's what pays the bills.

On that latest list, note that the highest ratings club game is AFL. Also, the NRL's reliance on pay ratings as a positive is a pathway to disaster because it's an elitist tactic that goes against the community support that always has been and always will be a hallmark of the great game of footy. Those are the ones who can't afford pay TV.

And yet thugby needs rep games to win the ratings war? I think that's a problem, not an advantage!

Needed to be said.

Im not fully sure you understand what rep football is! Despite the stupidity factor, it is just plain unfair not to include it. It is basically an 8 week period , disrupted by missing as many as 34 of our best players. Star players are what people want to see. last week we had just 7 matches, 5 the week before and 5 adain next week. Your mob and failed. No wonder you dont want to include it

BS! It's unfair to include it because it is NOT club sport! The game (whatever it is) relies on clubs to survive! To rely on rep games for wins in whatever manner you want is a massive fail. It also shows a lack of support for the club game, and that's a disaster just waiting to happen!

If you think this is all a good thing, then you are in for a massive shock as AFL takes over NSW and QLD in the long term. Because we CARE about the game at it's most important point! Club footy!!
