Old Dimmerswitch is a lil worried this morning
thats it .. a piece of history .. the biggest game of the VFL year in Syd .. is over , & they couldn't even half fill the joint with

2 sydney teams playing
thousands of freebies given out
no other sport anywhere near homebush
izzy failnow playing

wow

the extent to which VFL is goneskies in NSW
is even surprising to me :-k

I would love to see the ratings in Sydney for this one dave. :D
They're up already. 88k for 7mate. Not bad at all, especially when a portion of the 200k on foxtel is added.
88k is shite mate, here is link to last nights ratings for the historic moment for the AFL. Just poor numbers.

This historic moment cant even beat a Friday night football in ratings. And if i add foxtell to NRL numbers then that is usually 250k-350k+ depending on the team.

AFL saturday historic moment http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2012/03/sat ... -2012.html

NRL normal friday night game on the couch or at the game like myself at Parra Stadium (damm Eels played horrible /cry), http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2012/03/fri ... -2012.html

Both these numbers do not include regional's and if they did you would be annihilated by NRL.

Rubbish. 82k for a second digital channel is very good, especially given these channels rate about half the primary channel.

When the foxtel ratings are added to the FTA ratings the AFL rated just under 900k on Saturday night from one game which featured 2 Sydney teams. Can the NRL do that? Nope. What's your best ratings this year for FN? Just over 700k. Most weeks you need to target both your states with two games to barely get 700k.

Why the hell would you add foxtel numbers to the FTa game? They're played at different times :?

Yes Xman, a second digital channel. I dont have digital at home as many thousands and perhaps millions of sydney siders dont. Unfotunately this historic game was not played on normal fta tv. It simply wasnt important enough in this RL loving city. Additionally I'm disappointed to say it but it seems the Izzy experiment is heading in the Khunt direction. He got one kick and two handballs and apparently left the field looking "dismayed and dejected". What sort of people are these AFL bosses, bandying money about to put bums on seats while toying with peoples professional lives, their emotions, and taking away opportunities for those who deserve it. [-X

Demetriou now would have preferred if izzy was suspended for this game. Experiment 2 looks set for failure. [-X

And Xman? You didnt answer my question properly. Why was this historic game not played on channel 10 or 7 but instead the, as you describe it, "SECOND DIGITAL CHANNEL"?

All FTA AFL games as part of the new broadcasting agreement are broadcast on 7mate in NSW/ACT and QLD.

Get with the times will ya. You would have to be the only person I know of who doesn't have digital tv. A set top box will set you back $40.

As I said - big crowds and big ratings mean the success of expansion
especially when you consider the SUNS made an operating profit.
Nice try Cos.

All the more reason a result of 98K was outstanding for a secondary channel! =D> =D>

The AFL negotiated this deal with 7 which will show 4 live games per week to NSW and QLD. What a great result for the AFL and AFL fans in these states. The NRL will be hoping they can repeat such a great deal in AFL states. Shame the audience isnt really there to justify it. 20k watched the live telecast of the Storm on Sunday in Perth.

But Xman, why was this historic momentous occasion shunted to a "second digital channel"? Could this possibly mean the game is not seen as very important in the biggest most poular city in Australia?

It's called a contract

The NRL isn't even shown during decent hours regularly in 4 states of Australia.

Your laughing looks nervous dear Xman. I think RL is generally seen as not that important in several australian states. Could it be that victorian rules and the AFL competition is seen as unimportant in sydney, the most populous and largest city in this nation?

It's an emoticon, not my face. If it looks nervous it ain't me.

Ah, the GWS crowd was 3 times larger than the corresponding NRL showdown the night before. The Melbourne storm, NRL ladder leaders, drew 12k on Sunday against no sporting opposition. This week they are playing at the same time as Coll v Haw across the road. This game will draw 80-90k while the storm draws another crowd in the low teens.

A result of 82k on 7mate, plus foxtel is pretty good for GWS, especially against an NRL game on foxtel.

Somehow I think the AFL is FAR more relevant in Sydney than the NRL is relevant in any state or territory outside NSW ACT or QLD combined.

Lol more delusions of epic proportions, NSW QLD = 53% of AUS population so AFL is a backwater sport to 53% of aussies? And not to mention its a abomination of a sport to the rest of the world lol.
