Where did the Canberra Snot Greens TURN OVER 72 million last year - their parent group has assets of that much and made around 3 mil in before tax profit - but the football club LOST money last year after NRL distributions, ACT government handouts AND being gifted money from its parent group - it DID NOT make ANY money from its football operations and it's crowds are on the steady decline since the 90's - as for its parent group it made LESS money than the year before it seems the pre-commitment legislation is starting to bite!!!!!!
Looks like it's all down hill for the snot greens!!!

Haha a football lub that doesn't need crowds, or fans or success. That's luckly. Thank God someone that owns the club made 72 million to keep bank rolling them.

Raiderdave copping the hammering he deserves. Imagine claiming the Raiders turnover 70 odd k when in reality they've got one of the smallest club revenues in Australian professional sport

Serious question, does any really truly believe the nrl is bigger than the AFL. Put all the jousting aside, am curious as to whether some here honestly hold that opinion.

Yes.
You people from the AFL states like to play down the support RL has in this country, yet year after year the TV figures show that RL is the most popular game on TV in this country.
What a lot of AFL fans don't seem to get either is the fact that our true heartland (the bush) doesn't get mentioned, these people love their footy as much if not more than their city slicker brothers yet find it almost impossible to get to games esp when played Friday or Monday nights thus restricting the potential average crowds across the board.
On average the regionals rate higher for RL than the metro do.

The reason the AFL have all the money atm is because they got in their early and cut out the rot before it took right over a couple of decades ago, the NRL under the ARLC is just getting itself back on its feet after 2 decades of infighting, backstabbing and filling lawyers boots full of money.
The game truly is or was (in Aus) run by self serving arseholes who only cared about themselves, the same can be said for every other League on the planet. hopefully all the other Leagues see what the ARLC do over the next few years and follow suit.

to be fair, this has to be tempered a little. NRL folk count anyone who watches Origin as a supporter for some reason, even though this isnt reflected in any other tv audience for the rest of the year. Yes, we understand Origin is part of rugby league as a whole, but almost all Origin viewership outside of NSW/QLD is due to the event itself, as well as being played mid week in an otherwise sporting blackhole, while not making those people genuine supporters of the game. The same can be applied to the grand finals of either code outside heartland areas.
Origin TV 2014: Melb 320-426k, Perth 90-136k, Adelaide 49-86k
Home & Away Ave: Melb 20, Perth 12, Adelaide 2 (when it can be even shown live)
Its quite clear that event watchers arent being turned into regular supporters.
And while NRL ratings in the regionals may be ignored, to a large degree they are ignored in the AFL arena as well. Victorian ratings are not reported at all, Regional SA isnt covered, and Regional WA/Tasmania doesnt get a hell of a lot of acknowledgement either.
Oh and on average NRL regionals
DONT rate higher than NRL metro, its about 73% of the metro total as of the time of writing. Only twice this year has Regional exceeded the Metro ratings on OZtam reports. Metro ave: 573k, Regional Ave: 420k
Regadless of whether it 's Origin - Test or club level , there watching Rugby League.
The storm have only been shown live in Melbourne for 18months, for the previous 10 years they wern't shown much before midnight. 20 years after the Swans first appeared on tv in Sydney they were still being out rated by Iron Chef replays on SBS.
Melbourne is watching Origin in similar numbers to what they get at there club games.
Melbourne people will watch anything, Aussie Rules has been there for over a hundred years, but show them a much more exciting game and that will change, maybe not over night but it will happen.
There were more people watching there grand final presentation than there Grand Final - That could only happen in Melbourne.
I think the point that EEls was making is that people in the country are even more passionate about the football and would rate higher on a per capita level.
The Melbourne ratings are there and are counted .
Very few people live ouside of Adelaide. Check out the Oztam maps. Paskerville - 200 square km, population 600. There are far more people not counted in rural Qld than Melb, SA and wherever else combined.

the parent company might do 70 million in pokes
but the actual raiders NRL club is the smallest so called professional club in Australia, nothing but a worthless pile of crap
it could be worse, considering the sports minister of the ACT has publicly stated that crowds for the Raiders & Brumbies games the numbers have been fudged
