They're readily available on this site and from MediaweekAUS on twitter.

Last nights: Sat Sub TV: #AFL #afltigershawks 242k #aflsunspower 68k #aflsaintsswans 230k #aflgiantsdons 68k #aflcrowspies 318k

So the Games in red were shown at exactly the same time, as were the games in green. Therefore, just like the NRL do on Friday nights, the ratings should be combined to show how many fans were watching AFL at 7.30pm last night, and the afternoon ratings were also over 300k when the tigers v hawks and suns v swans is added.

Why is that a problem when the NRL have been doing it with their friday fta ratings for years? :-k

Reasonable ratings for the swans for an afternoon game plus on foxtel. With two foxtel games at the same time for afternoon and evening, both time slots should be around the 1 million mark excluding regionals

I realise this all stems from the fact that the AFL are unable to compete with the NLR - so we just pretend.

But do you realise that you dont have to watch a game to be rated as a viewer ? All you need to do is to flick over during an add break or half time to get the score . And if you do it once, twice or three times then your counted once twice or three times. It's pretty easy to see its an advantage, not some kind of negative as you try to make out. So cut out all pathic excuses and face up to it! The reason your game get less viewers, has no one, other than a few backwater states, intersted in it, is because your game is dead set boring

Firstly, until you provide evidence for that comment it's just utter shite!

Secondly that's some of the worst excuse making ever! #-o

Thirdly, if flicking over to another channel briefly attributes to the ratings of that channel it must also detract from the channel you have flicked off from, so the net affect would be the same. If not there must be a lot of false ratings from channel surfers.

Fourthly, the combined ratings for concurrent AFL programs is so much higher than the NRL games, even if your comment was true it wouldn't add 100k extra over 3 hrs.

Fifthly, are you saying when I flick over to laugh at the NRL crowds on foxsports2 that I've been falsely adding to their ratings?

So no, I will continue to add ratings of concurrent games while the NRL does it on Friday nights and has done so for years.
What a mega-flog!

You seam a bit upset at the world Parra. Just relax its only a game....ratings thread. As to how I approximately worked out the number of PTV viewers in Sydney it is quite easy. About 35% of households in Sydney have foxtel or T box. If you have 55K watching on FTA it will be about 65% of the total Sydney ratings because 35% will be watching it on Foxtel. Therefore to extrapolate you have 55K FTA (65%) and 30k Foxtel (35%). The second figure is only an approximation, however this is simple statistics. The more people watching the more exact the statistics will be. 9 out of 10 people will watch the game on Foxtel if they have it because there are no adds.

So RL ratings are also inflated by RU followers who flick over to see the score. Plus NSW and qld have the highest subscription rates so channel flickers are more likely to be from the states, and interested in RL. Plus there would be many cross coders interested in the scores of the other game. I'm sorry but your excuse is utter bs. Flicking over for a look at the score would add nothing to the ratings of a show that goes for 3 hrs. Add to that it would likely detract from the average of the show you've just turn off anyway.

You just don't like the fact that the AFL are actually kicking NrLs butt in the payTV ratings. Poor boy!

Pussy cat and Eelofwest just for the record you cant really say that Souths V Canterbury got 717K ratings because that is the combination from the Mel V Brisbane game and the Souths V Canterbury game. Brisbane and Melbourne watched the Melbourne V Brisbane game (280K brisbane and 77K Melbourne) and then the Souths V Canterbury game in brisbane generated 145K viewers and 27K for Melbourne. So in total only 532K watched the Souths V Canterbury game (metro only).
Syd 350k Mel 27k Bri 145k Ade 2k Per 8k
If you want to count the 717K figure you need to relabel the game , for example: Friday NRL 25/5 broadcast 1.
Im pretty sure you need to relabel quite a few of the NRL games or lower the ratings to the correct ratings for each game. Eg Souths V Canterbury 532K. Xman has at least used correct labels for his dodgy broadcast ratings. You should do the same.

Another suggestion for the relabel of the NRL friday night games would be what Xman has done and relabel it to Friday round 11 or whatever round it is.

Here are the oztam sampling terms and definitions http://www.oztam.com.au/TermsAndDefinitions.aspx

They show that oztam sample each minute. It says each individual must watch at least 1 minute to be counted. Given that it samples each minute of time watched, any viewer that switches to another program for less than a minute will not be counted. Any viewer that switches for over a minute will be counted to the new program but will reduce the audience of the program they have switched over from.

Your excuses are bs as I knew they would be.

Exactly. They want to combine games on Fridays but they're not happy for others to do it! [-X [-X
