3.928 million people nationally watched an epic GF last night. Thanks to all our fans and supporters.

tweeted by Dave Smith. Well, least we beat AFL. Still a lot of work to do though....Would have preferred 3.7 million viewers, need to send a message to the NRL without having a drop in crowds/viewers that can't be recovered.

Hahahaha.

I love it how when he realises he lost he resorts to quoting the peak figure. Notice he doesnt say "average"? The AFL GF peaked at around 4.5m :>::

True, reflective of a lack of interstate teams. poor reffing, poor set of rules. Last year was a 4.7 million peak for NRL. Oh well, I want a strong message to be sent to the ********* working at the nrl, now hopefully they'll act for 2014.

Your biggest issue is the code isnt national, no teams in 2 states and no games played in a 3rd. Add to that the code is struggling to gain support in its own heartland of Sydney. I mean the crowds are truly horrible

The inclusion of regional figures saw the national audience climb to a peak of 3.928 million, with an average of 3.315 million viewers

So even including 200k for NZ the AFL still won

Awwww, poor Dave

And for the idiot that mentioned New Zealand, well they are 2 hours in front of Australia, thus the game kicked off well after 9pm local time, may have even been as late as 10.15pm because of our Day light saving kicking in.

200k on NZ Pay TV with no NZ side in the big one played outside of Prime time and some idiot above rubbishes it?

Come on, Sydney's FTA ratings for the AFL grand final weren't much better.

Dumbarse.

:-k Come on TF forumers lets get your predications for the AFL V NRL grand finals tv figures, it sure will be interesting when considering no swans to inflate the AFL figures and no storm or QLD teams for the NRLs.

Lets keep this simply an all australian affair (so no NZ), and also the tv figures for the actual games only (no pre game or post game crap)...

And lets try to keep the bias outter it as much as possible... :)

And the winner was ...... AFL grand final

I think the nrl as Sunday night prime time and public holiday next day in nsw and qld means people will have a night with it . If we are keeping the guesses made with regionals out and go by the actual 5 city metro ratings AFL will win as it has all year and has always .

its not a holiday in qld

you live there .... apparently  & you don't know this ? :?>

nah straight up AFL, you guys won this one. superior management by far. hopefully the NRL can get their act together, they're a bunch of idiots the lot of em, all ex-players with no business experience. we'll comeback strong just like we did after Super League with the better product and the greatest game of all. another one for the highlight reels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9IlvoIyJWU

they just keep on coming round after round in the NRL, a rare occurence in the VFL ;)

Anyway, we're all off to watch the Rugby League World Cup, hopefully see SBW go back to back with a union WC and league WC :D then the NRL 9s comp in febuary, what are you guys doing for the next 6 months?

I'm amazed you can't find highlights of AFL ... Did you see Abblet's goal against Geelong? Look up mark and goal of the year also. Also search motlop. It's a cracker

No, Nobody watches superior management they watch football.
AFL won because they had an interstate team and nrl didn't.
NRL came close because they play in prime time and AFL play in dead time.
If AFL adjust the timing of the GF it will be a big winner and of course
it's much easier with a superior product in AFL.
