the swans made more money in revenue from membership alone

than your little raiders did in their total revenue of 12 million even after tax concessions & appearance fees from the government & they still made a loss of 226 thousand

Pretty impressive the Swans getting 1 mil LESS from AFL distribution yet still a sizeable profit for 2013 - meanwhile the snot greens only have to find 12 mil and with all the hand outs from the government can't even achieve this modest sum! What a national embarrassment!!!!

I always felt like soccer was a bigger sport in melbourne than rugby league, i think the a-league memberships prove it ontop of the fact that it can facilitate 2 clubs vs the NRL's 1 club + international games that are played there usually have huge turnouts vs rugby league internationals
Sydney FC have over 20,000 memberships if the 11,000 junior memberships are included but i figured that would be looked down upon on here, either way i'd like to think soccer is doing great nonetheless. Don't think we'll ever be the most popular sport in any city or state in australia but a healthy 2nd/3rd is good enough especially since like aussie rules, we have teams all around the country whereas the NRL is eastern centric particularly in NSW and QLD

SFC don't have a problem with a league but I think and IMO there not really in direct competition with either code due to them being mainly a summer sport (maybe basket ball or cricket). So I think you can compare in those respects - as for membership the AFL and NRL don't differentiate - generally neither do we

its not internationals that are our ... marquee events dickhead
Origin is our equivalent to the Sookeroos
& it stacks up quite nicely eh
Etihad sold out every time its been played there since 2006
the MCG next year
& I'd also doubt 906,000 Melbournians have ever watched a game of Wendyball .... ever
they have for Rugby League though
