We are about 7-10 rounds into the 2012 season for both codes and I have come to the following conclusions so far. despite some missing data for both codes, I would say that the AFL with similar FTA results would be about 10% in front of the NRL for similar games. For example on friday nights the AFL probabaly averages about 1.1 million nationally compared to the NRL 900K. On Sunday afternoons the AFL outrates the NRL in a similar way (however the AFL game is usually live to at least the eastern states on sunday). Overall the AFL has more FTA games this season then the NRL, while the NRL has the SOO and rep games to help it catch up. Total number of games this year is very similar due to AFL having 18 teams and the NRL having 2 more rounds. The AFL will clearly win this year on total accumulative audience. Next year will be the big decider with hopefully two TV deals that are similar.

You guys are not in the contest, but keep making these numbers up as you go. This is without simulcasting, add 200+ ratings to each FTA game as soon as next year rolls around.

Why use thinktv? It counts NSW Qld and Vic regionals only.

How exactly will you get 200k extra ratings per game next year? :-k

Your broadcast numbers for the first game are big almost as big as the AFL numbers but the second game suffers because of it. Good luck with the total accumulation at the end of the year an easy win for AFL. So one of the NRL games just gets into the top 40? FTA only for national. The AFL is bigger with Fox simulcast sorry. BTW your numbers are a broadcast of two matches combined into one so even that is dodgy. Your first broadcast might get 1.1 million however your second broadcast gets less then 700K. If each broadcast was a single match I could understand where you are comming from however it is a combo rating.

You have FTA broadcasts beamed into single states constantly, and yet ,because we do similar for 1 of our matches you try to ridicule it  ... I suppose when your desperate you'll try anything.

Friday night is easily the best rating time slot of the footy weekend for both codes. The NRL maximizes their audience by combining two targeted live games in prime time with a flexible schedule, and gets a good result. Yet for some strange reason NRL fans seem to think this is their normal ratings for the entire weekend. It isnt. What they get in extra audience in the 7.30 game they drop massively in the 9.30 game because briabane turn off when the game doesnt involve the broncos. This year the NRLs live fn game has lost all but last week to the AFL. The Sunday games aren't even a contest!

I realise this is a very hard for you to swallow XMan, but there is 40% of our audience not counted each week on our FTA games.

The AFL was shown in SA and WA only on Sunday.

How long will it take you to realize the AFLs games are split into multiple markets and on FTA and payTV? The first week (round 3) where each market watched a FTa game it rated 762k. The next sunday rated 800k. The next week rated 1284k. Have any NRL Sunday telecasts rated these figures this year? I'd say no.
