Fight Club - Football TV Ratings (AFL vs NRL)

We are about 7-10 rounds into the 2012 season for both codes and I have come to the following conclusions so far. despite some missing data for both codes, I would say that the AFL with similar FTA results would be about 10% in front of the NRL for similar games. For example on friday nights the AFL probabaly averages about 1.1 million nationally compared to the NRL 900K. On Sunday afternoons the AFL outrates the NRL in a similar way (however the AFL game is usually live to at least the eastern states on sunday). Overall the AFL has more FTA games this season then the NRL, while the NRL has the SOO and rep games to help it catch up. Total number of games this year is very similar due to AFL having 18 teams and the NRL having 2 more rounds. The AFL will clearly win this year on total accumulative audience. Next year will be the big decider with hopefully two TV deals that are similar.

You guys are not in the contest, but keep making these numbers up as you go. This is without simulcasting, add 200+ ratings to each FTA game as soon as next year rolls around.

Friday night is easily the best rating time slot of the footy weekend for both codes. The NRL maximizes their audience by combining two targeted live games in prime time with a flexible schedule, and gets a good result. Yet for some strange reason NRL fans seem to think this is their normal ratings for the entire weekend. It isnt. What they get in extra audience in the 7.30 game they drop massively in the 9.30 game because briabane turn off when the game doesnt involve the broncos. This year the NRLs live fn game has lost all but last week to the AFL. The Sunday games aren't even a contest!

The AFL was shown in SA and WA only on Sunday.

The ratings are on this site! They show the AFL dominating Sundays as they always have.
