Was having a look at crowd averages to date, and thought it interesting that both expansion clubs in the AFL were the only teams that had acrowd average under 20k. And in the nRL? TWELVE teams out of 16 have a lower average attendance than 20k. Only 2 of those (Melbourne and NZ) are in expansion markets.

Only one team in the nRL has a higher average attendance than 30k, compared with 10 in the AFL.

nRL

Brisbane 37954
Souths 28856
Parramatta 23706
St George Illawarra 20819

???So 10 thousand is okay in league heartland however a similar number is disastrous in a place where a game is trying to explore whether there is interest ???? Weird logic
Here I'll save the AFL some money... Don't bother in NZ because no one cares. I'm surprised 13,000 still showed up. Ive heard the pies at the ground are good but to sit through 2 hours watching men in tights pushing and prancing about, no thanks.

Lol I think that's the point ... To try and develop the game where there is little interest ....look at Sydney 50 years ago. ...

Sydney 100 years ago had thriving AFL competition. But, for all its development, turned to shite.

AFL in Sydney 1914 would look very similar to AFL in Sydney 2014 except the two AFL teams obviously. The Presence, Strength, numbers playing AFL over 100 years has not seen major change

I think the media pay it much more attention - no one would be writing about an AFL going to the beach with a woman for instance. Hell, you didn't even get the scores in the paper, let alone in the tv sports reports. 50 years ago -AFL was non existent. Look at it now - how many sydney players playing AFL? Come on be serious.

Compare the media now to when swans first arrived.

AFL have grown in Sydney massively . It is funny how it upsets dave so much. No wonder he needs psychiatric help .., I can see him sitting in shut down mumbling something about the AFL .... Rocking back and forth .
