I think a team in Newcastle should happen. Makes sense, good population, away from but close enough to Sydney , has AFL in the community already, and plenty of growth in a nrl heartland. I think you’ll see another team in Adelaide, Northern Territory will come in one form or another, and a long way down the track another Brisbane and Sydney team. Personally, I’d like to see less teams - maybe 14 and a second division with relegation. And promotion.
what is the local footy scene like over that way of the world. are there many kids playing or recruited and playing in the AFL

Seven is preparing a bid for the NRL rights. Perfect timing. Clearly Australia's No.1 sport. Smashed the fumbling in GF tv ratings. Is expanding into WA, and PNG with NZ the pacific countries and Europe next on the list. The game if flying!!!!!!

The arguements I hear against an AFL team in Newcastle are the very reasons why I think there should be one there.
The Giants was a massive stuff up from the start. Agree- Canberra needs a team.
Canberra would be successful, they should be AFLs 20th team. Or even if they moved GWS to Canberra and called themselves the Canberra Giants. Sounds a lot better than GWS Giants.

Newcastle has a decent AFL grassroots - I think they have the oldest AFL comp still running in the black Diamond cup - but don't quote me. Have family in the area and the kids all played Aussie rules - and some continue to play at a higher level as adults - so definitely there is the base of such things as a minimum.

I would agree. I think they still need a team in Western sydney given the population out there - but maybe they need to start again from scratch.

Even during Covid Gill got the AFL a batter deal and PVL was laughed out of the building
