As for drop in ratings, have you got the complete figures for the previous years? Because Wookie doesnt. I'll concede that last year was average for ratings for the AFL, but showing the wooden spooner in 1/3rd of the FN games was a major reason. In fact the AFL scheduled FN very poorly last year with only 6 of the 24 FN games featuring a matchup between finalists. Hopefully this year theyve learned their lesson

Australia-wide, taking in telecasts on both the free-to-air Seven network and pay television's Fox Footy, numbers are down by nine per cent.
Even wookies spreadsheet showed a drop last year.
What did the AFL rate round 1 2015?
4.927m
You think you can make that number this year?

well that article was in July, not even close to the end of the season. I have no idea if this year will beat last yeras first round. Will it beat the year before that, or the prior years? It's only one round. If you can show a pattern I'd like to see it

You also have 4 FTA games into every state as pussycat said. Compared to the NRL's 3.
There is also changes next year when 13 FTA games and your big Perth and WA derbys go to Uncle Ruperts Fox.
So if you cannot make back that deficit from 2015 i am afraid your ratings are only going to go backwards next year almost guaranteed.

those changes will affect the ratings tally which really only impacts the TV revenue. Not sure we're too worried about that given we currently earn the most money from TV of any Australian sport

[quote="Xman"]your code proves that simulcasting FTA and fox reduces the ratings for both. None of your simulcasted games have got anywhere near 300k. NONE. The only high rating games on Fox you've had have been exclusive to fox
Another moronic statement! It may have taken a few weeks for people to work out the new system. But the ratio between FTA and Fox are pretty much the same in both codes.

how many of your highest rating games on fox have been simulcast on FTA? Simple question........

Derby games will be broadcast on FTA in Perth as they always have. They are almost never boradcast nationally. The local game broadcasts remain guaranteed, theres no change to that.
No.3: Potentially fewer free-to-air games
For footy fans who don't subscribe to pay TV, it would be very concerning to learn that Channel Seven might be broadcasting fewer games between 2017 to 2021/22 than it already does. Under the current deal, which expires next year, Seven show four matches in a regular round – the Friday night game, a Saturday afternoon game, a Saturday night game and a Sunday afternoon game.
If another free-to-air channel, such as Ten, doesn't get involved in the on-selling of games in the next deal, then fans who only have free-to-air TV might only be treated to as few as three games every weekend. A digital subscription would have to be a serious consideration in that scenario. Of course, if you do have Foxtel this won't affect you one iota – you'll have access to all nine games each week in their entirety as per usual.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR VIEWERS
Over the course of the season there will be 11 fewer home and away games on free-to-air TV, with Thursday night football set to be significantly enhanced as a showpiece fixture.
The other major change is one of the Saturday afternoon fixtures is moved to 3.20pm, designed for Foxtel to on-sell to a free to air network as a lead in to the 6pm news.

Unless c10 picks up a game wookie, the FTA portion goes down to 3 live a week instead of the 4 games the AFL has now.
Uncle Rupert did not pay you that money without taking his pound of flesh out of you guys..
Almost guarantees a TV ratings decrease for that year.

The_Wookie wrote:not one thing you just quoted contrradicts what i said about the local game broadcast guarantee.
Its says it there, less games on FTA in parts of the country for certain games.
Its from the AFL website.
So what your saying is the ratings will not be effected by these changes?
Hard to believe that.

Wookie big ask but whats the chance you can have the NRL crowds spreadsheet together with the ratings one like you do with the AFL, it being a crowds and rating thread an all? [-o< [-o<
Or just posting the crowds spreadsheets for NRL in here?

youre still yet to provide me with one NRL game on FTA and FOX at the same time that has rated well on fox. Any of them rate near 297k like the AFL got on fox yesterday? In fact the AFLs single game yesterday would have rated well over 1m. Any afternoon NRL games rated this well?

As it stands atm with AFL metro and Fox numbers you are %1 down, i know regionals to come but considering ratings went south last year it looks like AFL ratings are flat. Early days though.
NRL is still waiting on its regionals but without regionals added we are 17% up with about %8 NZ to add and regionals of about 650k to add.
Over 30% up on tv ratings here we come....

not to mention being %7 up on crowds.
