All seasons except for 1976 during the time of zoning. I don't have time to go through them one by one.

I have to say that the ignorance of all AFL fans on this site not to acknowledge that the AFL season is lopsided with all the facts staring them in the face is mind boggling.
THE AFL has conceded it underestimated the pain of introducing two new clubs to the competition as it grapples with the most lopsided season in history.
As clubs fall off the pace in the run to the finals, the average losing margin has spiralled to 42.2 points - the largest since league football started in 1897.

It has become clear to the AFL HQ, why cant you AFL fans just admit that the AFL comp is the most uneven in its history..... #-o .

Everyone knows there are more poor performing teams than previous year. I've said it for weeks  But the reasons are clear and will resolve as the new teams mature.

What also needs to acknowledged is that the race for the top 8 and the GF has rarely been closer.

Funny how you just focus on one aspect!

Eel you just don't get it do you? When we had zoning the competition was lopsided as badly as it is now. And it survived and prospered! For 20 years from the 60's to the 80's the competition was dominated by Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood, Hawthorn, St.Kilda and later North Melbourne and Essendon. Clubs like Fitzroy, South Melbourne, Melbourne, Footscray and to a certain extent Geelong struggled to get a look in. The one year that was the exception (1976) the bottom side won six games - which was unusual for the time. It so happened that the club that got that year's wooden spoon was Collingwood, who bounced back the following year into the grand final.

So stop giving those stupid stats. The VFL/AFL has a history of seasons like this one. Heck, when Brisbane first joined as the Bears they struggled. Yet they now have three flags under their belt. Fremantle have been struggling as well. Sydney had their moments in their new home. And I can go back to the debut year of 1925 for Footscray, North Melbourne and Hawthorn and how long it took them to settle in. And St.Kilda were well known as the permanent easybeats until just before zoning was introduced!

These are the facts. No lies, like KE wants to believe simply because it's me saying it. He can't see beyond the end of his brattish nose.

I thought I'd killed this thread!

A point, Eel. 0 points for a bye, not 4 points.

it will resolve in the coming season and we will end up with a healthy comp that has at least 2 teams in the biggest 5 states in Australia, and 9 teams or 50% outside the main city in Melbourne.

Where as the NRL is limping along with teams in only 3 states and the vast majority of their teams in the one city.

I know which position id rather be in thats for sure.
King-Eliagh: ...I believe [RL] is popular in all the other states and territories, bar tasmania.
