I am official because I work for the Sydney AFL league and I know what the marketing boys are doing and what the fans are saying!

The correct name for Australian rules Football is exactly that. However it can also be called AFL
because that is how the game is marketed by the AFL. The terms are therefore interchangeable meaning the use of this term by NSWAFL was entirely correct. This use has also been applied by almost every member on this form.
