not sure if this is click bait - but anyway - I think the first year there will be natural interest - and people will jump on board - whether it is sustained will be the test - Perth - like Gold coast - are very fickle with their support - if the team is winning - no. matter what the sport, they are right behind it. There will be plenty of media and hype in the first year - but after that - when that dies down (and if they win it will stay up) it will be interesting. I actually think the Suns being a slow burn (compared to quick success for the Giants) has worked in their favour long term - they get a rusted on element that has hung in there during the lean years - and will be there when the lean years come again - GWS success can be seen as somewhat manufactured - and people see through this - whereas going the long haul has served Suns well I think - I think the same with WA - if they start winning off the bat - they will get the hype - and fair weather supporters - but if they build slowly - they may build a solid base. Exciting times ahead either way. I think one danger may be that the team get seen as not being local - that they are just a sydney team, controlled from Sydney - they need to avoid that perception, real or otherwise - as WA people have a massive chip about east coast states. All in all, should be good and look forward to see how this all pans out. I will guarantee one thing - they will never be bigger than Freo or Eagles - may get the occasional good or better crowd at home, but they will be minnows compared to those teams - which is understandable.
