The broadcasters know that NRL doesn't have the national marketing presence nation wide as Australia's favourite sport does.
It's still a two state competition nothing more and will never be much more.
AFL rights will once again trounce NRL rights and by a massive margin.

So what has changed from the past 5 TV deals?
The advertising market is little and a new Perth team with a little fan base will mean nearly fuck all in the over all the overall picture

Well we really only know FTA consistently - some news here and there re: fox/kayo - mainly around AFL having record ratings for particular games and record subscriptions. And yes, on FTA - which makes up a minority of the money - many more adds. It is also about demographics - with AFL have a broader constituency (no class identification like you have had for RL and RU) - in the AFL states anyway - although AFL taking RU's place I would say in Sydney and Brisbane. - And also about a broader national footprint. Just a few of the dynamics feeding into value.

No need to get salty at some truthful facts lol... The facts are Rugby League has way more places it can put teams than AFL ever can. AFL can't even get a team outside of Australia

I think a team in Newcastle should happen. Makes sense, good population, away from but close enough to Sydney , has AFL in the community already, and plenty of growth in a nrl heartland. I think you’ll see another team in Adelaide, Northern Territory will come in one form or another, and a long way down the track another Brisbane and Sydney team. Personally, I’d like to see less teams - maybe 14 and a second division with relegation. And promotion.
