im pretty Confident DAZN will get the Rights (they would be stupid not too)
they are going to have to pay over the moon for them. (which is going to have a knock on effect on customers)
As the AFL rights Kicked in this Season (fox raised its prices a fair bit)
I think that will be the case too .. & balance will be restored to the universe with the nations most watched sport having the largest media rights deal as it should
DAZN to pay 400 million ... that will be for 9 NRL games ( 6 exclusive )
& all reps except origin
FTA to be 200 million thats to 3 games a week , & all reps .... origin exclusive ( whether thats 9 having the lot, or 9 having the NRL & 7 the reps)
NZ 50 million for it all
NRL broadcast rights will increase but by how much is the question ?
What is without question is that NRL rights will be once again be runner up to the much more lucrative AFL rights.
NRL is the poor kid who despite running his heart out always comes second.
NRLW extra value irrelevant.
The broadcasters know that NRL doesn't have the national marketing presence nation wide as Australia's favourite sport does.
It's still a two state competition nothing more and will never be much more.
AFL rights will once again trounce NRL rights and by a massive margin.
The NRL has more leverage against the AFL rights than it has ever had. Especially when the 3 state of origins mid year outrate every single AFL game by a lot (except the AFL grand final).
And once the NRL gets a team in Perth in 2027, that will definitely increase their tv rights leverage value even more.
Also you forget about NZ, a country with 5 million people there with a growing NRL supporter base. The Warriors sold out 24 of their 27 home games there. A country which has no interest in AFL whatsoever despite AFLs multiple failed attempts of trying to grow their sport there.

So what has changed from the past 5 TV deals?
The advertising market is little and a new Perth team with a little fan base will mean nearly fuck all in the over all the overall picture

I read a bit and AFL is still foxteks number 1 product - based on more than just ratings - I think the whole ratings thing is seem differently by those who matter like ad buyers. where you getting this info from Freddy,
NRL have blown ratings out of the park this season>>
AFL have more sponsors Brands as whole on FOX> ive heard this one before.
but does not mean you have more dollars from Sponsors on FOX
there is alot more advertising for AFL which is what it could be for a FTA network >>
I guarantee you Ch7 make more than ch9 do for AFL to NRL simply because of Breaks galore to NRL.

Well we really only know FTA consistently - some news here and there re: fox/kayo - mainly around AFL having record ratings for particular games and record subscriptions. And yes, on FTA - which makes up a minority of the money - many more adds. It is also about demographics - with AFL have a broader constituency (no class identification like you have had for RL and RU) - in the AFL states anyway - although AFL taking RU's place I would say in Sydney and Brisbane. - And also about a broader national footprint. Just a few of the dynamics feeding into value.

Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys has declared war on Channel 9 in the lead-up to the NRL grand final, after the Today show heavily promoted the AFL grand final.
According to Code Sports, the NRL was inundated with complaints, and V’landys personally issued a please explain email after Nine’s breakfast program heavily promoted their rival league, which free-to-air rival Channel 7 has the rights to.
Code reports that the AFL got more airtime than the NRL finals last week on Today, and it led to several clubs complaining to V’landys about the level of promotion.
The report notes that one club official, who chose not to be named, said, “Channel 9 did a better job promoting the AFL than Channel 7, their rights holders.
“
It is not the first time Channel 9 has promoted the AFL over the NRL either, as two years ago they took the Today show to Adelaide to spruik the AFL’s Gather Round
And a look at the numbers shows exactly why the NRL’s feathers are ruffled.
Saturday’s decider between Brisbane and Geelong had a viewership of a whopping 6.09 million people on Channel 7’s main channel and 7Plus.
The AFL audience was slightly more than last year’s Lions v Swans decider, with the showcase event continuing to outperform the NRL grand final.

I think once V'Lady's took the tounge out of his cheek he made some good points.

Rugby League has a larger fan base in Perth than Melbourne. You can put your head in the sand & deny the sport has support there. But there is is a lot of South African & Kiwis there that will watch Rugby League as well as Union. State of Origin actually out rated the AFL game on Perth television and got a crowd of over 57,000 when played there.
Now they will have their own full time NRL the there

I think a team in Newcastle should happen. Makes sense, good population, away from but close enough to Sydney , has AFL in the community already, and plenty of growth in a nrl heartland. I think you’ll see another team in Adelaide, Northern Territory will come in one form or another, and a long way down the track another Brisbane and Sydney team. Personally, I’d like to see less teams - maybe 14 and a second division with relegation. And promotion.

An AFL team in Newcastle would flop worse than the Giants in Western Sydney. There will never be another AFL team in Sydney. They can't even get the second AFL team in Sydney to get enough support without playing in Canberra as well.
Canberra would be the only option if they ever added another team to NSW.

The arguements I hear against an AFL team in Newcastle are the very reasons why I think there should be one there.
The Giants was a massive stuff up from the start. Agree- Canberra needs a team.
