Make the call: How much will the NRL and AFL will get from the next TV rights deal

NSWRL signed a $100 million TV contract not long after all that.

Not before 1993 (Nine bought the NSWRL rights from 1991-92 for 6.5 million a year after Ten went broke and couldnt honour their 5 year , 48 million offer), and im not even certain it was 100 million, I can only find a reference to Nine paying 10 million a year for the rights from 1993 to 1999 (it was a seven year deal) - and if it was 100 million over seven years then it was only 14 million per year - for what its worth, Wikipedia says it was 80 million over 7 years, and included pay tv rights thrown in for free.

At the same time, Sevens AFL deal was definitely for 100 million, but over 6 years from 1993 to 1998 (17 million per year), and then it was 40 million for 1999.

The C9 contract was signed late 92. according to Ken Arthurson's book

The only thing that matters is the AFL got more, but there's nothing new there.

Could you imagine the loss if they were on the same as us? They would be losing $100m a year

x2 as many players. plus many, other expenses

The NRL will get 240m per match.
The AFL will get 230m per match

As we approach the era of direct streaming as the preferred choice to watch the game IMO TV ratings will decline for ALL codes meaning that the true test will be who's online streaming revenues are the greatest. I wonder who will really win this - no one seems to mention what the ratings are like for Foxtel and compare them with one another - it seems that free to air gets preference yet IMO it is a steadily declining medium who's relevance will continue to lessen with each passing year. Will RL people who tune into any match yet not purchase a membership pay to watch a match or will it be the reverse for AFL? Interesting times ahead!

When they have let out of the bag what what is rating via streams, the NRL is kicking the AFL's arse, and that's with the AFL having over 12 months head start.

And what "bag"'would that be? Phillips mothers handbag? Most evidence points to the AFL comfortably winning the streaming battle.

even the AFL's & clubs web site is vastly more frequently visited compared to the NRLOLs

If you look up the various AFL vids on YouTube you'll find a lot of Americans posting in the comments, especially for the AFL big hit vids, I've heard a lot of Europeans call AFL "rugby on steroids" pardon the pun.

WHY? because they have a reputation for being drug users?
