 you make ah no sense ah Xman. The coaches have spoken out about what happened and what happens. They would not have made such formal admissions had they felt it was as you seem to claim, normal practice Xman. The guilt is clear as day and you know it. Now drop the pride and admit the truth...as pookus and piesman have done. Get real the pair of you or as TLPG would scream LEAVE THIS FORUM!

I love AFL more than anyone, but I think there have been 1 or 2 games where a team has not wanted to win. I am not saying that they were trying to lose but because of the way the priority pick was it was better for some teams to lose than win.

This should all change after this year

I can handle the fact that they may have prioritised team development over winning but I have never witnessed, nor do I believe, coaches or players make active decisions to lose games. It goes against everything they are trying to do in developing team skills, drills, tactics, work ethic, team structure, team moral, club culture, supporter moral etc..

the benefits of losing under the old system was almost always a slightly earlier draft pick. Rarely in history has it resulted in a priority pick. However as Ive shown in this thread any player picked at any stage in the top 10 could be the best player. History shows it has not usually been pick 1, in fact only twice in 11 years.

But the damage done in deliberately throwing games is a far greater than the rewards of an earlier draft pick.

Its a myth.

If I remember correctly, if the Lions had lost to StKilda in the last game of 98 then they would have got a priority pick but they played a great match & won on the siren in one of the games of the year, so they obviously were not tanking, & look what happened to them in the years that followed, so u are probably right about the culture in developing a team.

I have no doubt Xman's right in his assessment of the importance of building a positive team culture and the relative uncertainty associated with which draft pick will be the best in future. What Xman doesnt get is that the world doesnt revolve around his assessment of things. This makes Xman a very narrow minded buffoon.

You see people have different opinions and different motivators and with the admissions of several high profile AFL figures we can all see that tanking was a very strong motivator for some dodgy individuals coaching and managing certain teams. We should not adhere to Xmans narrow vision and admonish those characters and acts that bring down the great sport of marngrook. :salute:

I have to agree with King on this one.

If carlton had lost to Melbourne in 07 then they would not have got Kruser so I am sure that they are happy now they lost instead of winning a game that meant nothing & missing out on a great ruckman.

bingo.

there is a classic example of a team that had many chances to lose but decided a win was more important for developing the correct culture than an extra pick in the draft.

Nice work!

And if they'd won they could have got an even better player, like a Trent Cotchin or a Cyril Rioli.

I've already explained to you what tanking is, you can pretend to not understand but it seems like the majority of AFL fans on this site are against you now Xman. good try but you cant even pretend I'm just anti what you say anymore on this one. Everyone but you and TLPG believe and are honest enough to admit that foul play has occurred.

This ones doooone and dusted, locker up Xman! :\:
