How is your comp sizing up so far beaussie, round 2 back to last years levels for the NRL. AFL on the other hand, round 1 down at least 35% on last year and lucky to match crowds of 93

Comp is just fine were not the ones making outlandish predictions - just look at the match ups
GC v Tigers - at metricon max capacity is 25k
Coll v Freo - at Edihad - Thursday night
Swans v GWS - at Spotless max capacity 25k
Hawks v Lions at Aurora stadium max capacity is 20k
Says more about playing at small venues and odd times than popularity - not exactly blockbusters. And certainly no cause for alarm - starting this early is something AFL fans are not used to.

And how's that 5 yr plan looking have you cracked 20k average yet in the NRL?
Seriously, do you have any brains..
A 5 yr plan is a 5 yr plan..
Is it anywhere near the end of that 5 yr period..?????
You are stupid.
Not normal stupid.
But a special kind of stupid.

The Tigers and Blues drew 62,037 to the first MCG match of the season last night, two weeks after the season opened with a Collingwood v Fremantle game at Etihad Stadium.
Almost 81,000 watched the two teams clash in Round 1 last year.
Nearly 20k down on the same game last year..........................wow

Whats going on AFL fans, like i said before on this site...........................you cant beat economic factors and the car industries leaving SA, VIC is going to effect your crowds weather you like it or not.

You can't compare Car v Rich to previous years because its usually the season opener which always draws a few more. Add to that both teams lost in the first round which lessens expectations of tiger fans because they always hope for a special year but are left dissapointed after game 1 :_<>
Having said that 60k for a soggy Thursday night is awesome
And tonight? Over 40k in a sellout at Etihad. While the NRL only managed 30k from 2 games.

Look it was a thursday, but now you know what the NRL deals with on monday night football....................school nights are never good for crowds.
20K less people to the game is the price you pay for pandering to the TV networks...........................is it all worth it for the footy codes playing during the week?
How much more money do the codes make for the slightly larger tv ratings.............

Carl v rich crowds vary from 60-90k depending on factors such as weather and the fans expectancy of the coming season. Both their losses in the first round would have kept a few away from there usual season opener where expectations are high.
Shame ess v hawks wasnt at the MCG. Would have been 60-70k easy, and deserved to be for such a great game.

a large proportion of the middle tier of 3 isnt available to members or GA, so unfortunately its a reality at Etihad stadium. The GA sells out for games like this very quickly.

AFL: 105k after 2 games, with some big games coming. How dissapointing....
30k after 2 "big" NRL games.

AD is concerned. The AFL need access to the MCG from round one. I think he is using rnd 1 crowds to prove that a vacant MCG in mid march is a joke and the AFL should have access.
I've been to many GA sellouts at Etihad where the crowd is in the mid 40's. Unfortunately the medallion club and access one seating is exclusive membership ownership, and not available to the public. It sucks but thats the way the stadium was setup. It'll change when the stadium is handed to the AFL in the coming years.
Anyway, you can't do much more than sell the game out, which was effectively the case mid week
