Hmm, not much has changed here. Foxtel might also be facing a profit downgrade
Almost all of the AFL matches are shown against another foxtel AFL game and/or an AFL FTA game, yet they are still figuring regularly in the top list now. Plus they are averaged over 3 hours.

Foxt Footy is the number one channel on Foxtel. =D>

Plenty has changed and definately for the better!

Nice!

The AFL have had about half the rounds but are dominating the FTA figures despite every game being simulcast on foxtel! In fact the only NRL games in the top 7 are rep games, not home and away games. =D> =D> =D>

There certainly ahead on FTA but hardly dominating. You need to remeber these ratings have been put down as PTV figures . If I was to halve them or put them all in the FTA category, then you would have nothing in the PTV list. Earlier you were bragging about the PTV improvement?

That right, almost if you regard 15% as all, rep games are RUGBY LEAGUE matches and there's more to come - Jealous?

Dont forget though that 2/3 + gets added to NRL matches before you arrive at the real figure. =D> =D>

Don't forget that 1/3 + gets added to the AFL figure, and that's not even including all AFL regional areas!

The AFL are that far ahead without regionals the difference will never be bridged by adding regionals only. :D

Yep, beat your rep game, which is relevant to your entire fan base, and smashed every NRL home and away game to bits.

Plus it was a day game telecast out of peak, plus it was averaged over a 5 hour telecast! =D>
The Anzac Day match-up between Collingwood and Essendon, which finished in a dramatic one-point win to the Magpies, set a new record as the most-watched AFL home and away match since OzTam ratings began in 2001.

Wednesday’s match at the MCG drew a total average audience of 1.726 million viewers nationally

Yesterday’s average audience was broken down into 1.029 million metropolitan free to air viewers, 357,738 regional free to air viewers and 338,870 subscription viewers.

Seven West Media takes a bath on profit downgrade

by: John Durie
From: The Australian
April 26, 2012 1:20PM

THE surprise from Seven Media's profit downgrade was more around cost increases than the expected fall in advertising revenues.

As expected the stock took a bath today, down 15.9 per cent to $3.17 a share, in part because punters don't like companies playing games like releasing bad news after market ahead of a national holiday.

If lack of revenue was the only issue, then maybe Ten (down 0.6 per cent at 82 cents) and Fairfax (down 2.8 per cent at 70c) would have been down more.

Seven is investing in television programming with the AFL to cost another $100 million this year, which on Deutsche Bank numbers means television costs are increasing by 8.3 per cent.

Without the AFL rights, the cost increase would only be 1.4 per cent, on Deutsche calculations.

Others misinterpreted early Seven guidance but, either way, Seven is pumping more money into programming just when a dismal economy is making it virtually impossible to recover costs
.

That advertising revenues are down came as no surprise to anyone.

Ten reported earlier this month, so its numbers were well known and probably reminded the folk at Seven to re-check their figures.

Both Seven and Ten hit 52-week highs with the rest of the market at the end of April 2011, and at 82c, Ten is below the 12-month average of 95c while Seven at $3.17 is well above its 52c average of $2.50.

The bottom line to all this of course is this - if June year-end companies are issuing profit warnings in April, then it’s a tough market.

The peak warning month is June, but already some companies have thrown in the towel as far as meeting this year’s numbers and we still have nine weeks trading to go.
Thoughts?

This could have serious implications for the NRLs tv rights bid.

Will ch7 be prepared to make another costly bid for more sport when they already show plenty of sport? Will ch10 be prepared to spend big money when they are already cash starved?

This is not good timing!! #-o :D

What? Ratings are what makes money. We both know which code rates better, and for longer.

This report will scare the bejeezus out of all the networks and probably make them reconsider a large tv deal.

Sorry, poor timing indeed!
