Just like every other kid from Melbourne, the only league team that would be of interest to my kids would be the storm of coarse. But let's face it, they're not exactly interesting for the kids compared to watching Essendon, who they all follow!
In fact why an AFL supporter would follow RL is beyond me. What's the attraction?

Underestimating your opponent is the first step to ruin Xman. :D
Can you underestimate the storm? Off field they are a total disaster as an expansion. They have had almost 15 years of amazing success but haven't grown substantially from their first years numbers.
The NRL is light years behind the AFL in expansion. They have no substantial grassroots development in any AFL state.
Thats because RL isnt in a position, like the AFL, where they need to expand. its never been a neccesity for us.
In the 80's Vfl faced financial extinction unless they made changes. At the top of the list was expansion.
What about the Swans? .... a real success story

Indeed, shown live and prime time with crowds in excess of 25-30k and unlike the Melbourne Storm in the NRL, not posting losses of over $8 million each and every year. A real success story as you put it.

As Beaussie said, a success story. Crowds of near double many of the Sydney NRL teams and more members than almost all of them. Meanwhile the storm get about 1/3 of all Melbourne teams.

I forgot to add, the Swans are the Number 1 sporting club in NSW.
Could you ever imagine the Melbourne Storm being able to say that? I know, I know

So a team is judged by whether they win they're tv timeslot in their home market? Hmmmm, every program beats the storm, they are crowds, membership and tv failures!

Another million plus result for the AFL! =D>
Fri TV: #AFL #aflsaintsfreo 1.05m #Seven Mel 385k Ade 118k Per 207k #7mate Syd 23k Bri 47k #FoxFooty 271k
Interestingly it beat the ARLs international test against NZ, the best 2 teams in international RL.
Fri TV: #NRL 914k+84k+30k Total 1.02m - Syd 516k Mel 15/73k (GEM) Bri 365k Ade 10/11k (GEM) Per 8/30k (GEM) #NZvAUS @DeadSetLegends. Note that this seems to include two telecasts to Vic SA WA
So a run of the mill AFL match between two non-top 5 teams, beats the only RL game on this weekend which was an international RL test match between Australia and NZ!
Too funny!

The game was not live ******

Good result, and if we take into account that our friday matches get 500k regionals then this game would be about 600k regionals to add.
1.02m + 600k regionals + NZ Fox 238,760 = 1838.76
http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2012/04/fri ... -2012.html
Great result considering the game was not live around the country =D> =D>

It was prime time!
It was the best Australian (nsw qld) RL v the best NZ RL!
It was beaten by an average Home and away AFL game on delay in SA and WA!

hmmmm
VFL
1.05 million metro & pay .... & 150K regionals
1.155 mill overall
the RL test
1.02 Mill metro ... & 600K regional
1.602 mill overall
yes .... thats a win isn't it
imagine if we'd whacked the test on pay as well ( like we will from 2013) ... another 300K
nearly double the vicky kicky
marcus ... a drubbling of epic proportions

If international RL was interesting to metropolitan australians it shouldn't have to rely on regional counts to win. It's the best of Australian RL v the best of NZ, yet it didn't even beat an everyday run of the mill home and away AFL game when shown to Australias 14 million metro audience!
AFL, better than anything RL can throw up.

5million regional population in NSW and QLD rate at 10% but 2.5million AFL regionals rate at 4%?
Oh Dave, you've lost all credibility!
Routine home and away AFL is more popular than international RL To the 14mil people living in Australia's metro centers ! =D> =D>
