the 2 " wings " at either end of ANZ for the olympics were always temporary , & not designed to remain part of the venue after the games were over .. they looked completely out of place as it was ... they each held 15K .. they were removed & we have ANZ as it is today .............

its about the experience ... people sitting in those wings had awful veiws .. I know .. I watched the 99 GF up in one
they weren't worth keeping up for 1 or 2 games a year where they'd be needed.
they'd cost money to maintain & mainly be empty for most of the year

I mean ... they'd of been a waste if ANZ were in Melbourne too
as the VFL only gets a handful of games a year with in excess of 80K spectators .. the wings would have been torn down ... down there too.
as they'd of been empty for 90% of the time for VFL in Melbourne & were a cost that was not needed.

I have had the the misfortune of attending a VFL game .. in Melb a few years back
the Adelaide buzzards V some suburb from Melb at Etihad...
my uncle had free tickets from his work ,we were all down for a neices 21st that night & had nothing to do during the day
so after a bit of coaxing & the promise of free beer , me & 2 of my brothers went along with uncle ...
well
we all looked at each other & this was the our expression


this is the so called great spectacle ... VFL is it
the crowd
the noise
the atmosphere

ahhhhhhh. ................ it was the most boring load of shite I have ever experienced
no noise
no atmosphere

a week later we were all together again in Sydney for another family function & all headed out to Leichardt oval the day after for an afternoon at the NRL ... for the Tigers & Bunnies clash .... well f me
the gates closed an hour before kickoff with several thousand outside ... unable to get in
23,000 jammed in ... 15 deep at the back of the Hill
Tigers won a thriller ... the noise was deafening the atmosphere ... electric
had a ball
the passion showed by the fans of these 2 sides ... a sight to behold & experience & I have at numerous grounds ... for many many years
