Re: NRL TV Deal
No think I will stick with the idiot theory as far more believable. Maybe they just forgot where they stored them after the season ended. Maybe the leaguies painted the storage shed a different colour and they couldn't work out what happened.

Re: NRL TV Deal
No, they came to the venue to mark the lines (boundary, goal, centre) and the posts were gone. This was during the season, not over the summer. Simple. The idiots were the thugby morons who did the deed - and in the case of Bega it worked.
Given all the fear being displayed on this forum of our great game it makes sense that there are some who would go that far. Especially with the game already established in Bateman's Bay since 1976 and in Canberra going way back to 1924.

You were lied to. That's what I think!TLPG wrote:It's why Bega, the largest city on the Sapphire Coast, doesn't have a team in the Sapphire Coast AFL anymore. The local thugby morons stole the goal posts preventing them from playing. That's what I was told at Pambula last weekend while I was chatting about the history of footy in the region.

sure ex pat victorians & their effeminate off spring play it in other places .. but the locals just laugh at them

& my Daughter was forced to play fudgekick ... well not play .. run through some pointless drills ... learning how to fumble .. bumble & miss
at school
I was told by the school P&C .. that they got some fences fixed paid for by the VFL.. as a result
how pathetic is that ?

Re: NRL TV Deal
No, Striker, Raider's claim is worse because it has absolutely no basis in truth. None. He was challenged about this some time back and he has one of his 11 BS points for it. Mine at least makes some sense - whether one believes it or not. The Sapphire Coast draws plenty of attitude from Victoria and Canberra as well. The game is popular in the ACT whether Raider likes it or not. Likewise on the Sapphire Coast, especially in Merimbula and Pambula. Heck, the social rooms in Pambula wouldn't be out of place in Victoria! Further to that, there's a thugby field on the other side - and who controls the rooms? The AFL club!! What does that tell you about the pecking order there huh?

Re: NRL TV Deal
TL, I happen to know that the Vics love the Sapphire Coast. It's not just about attitude! So to use your own term; So What? Canberra is not a factor because it's a lot further away than the Vic border.
It doesn't make sense.

Re: NRL TV Deal
Canberra is a factor, because two clubs that are or have been involved in the Sapphire Coast AFL also have a competition relationship with Canberra. Cooma were once a part of the Sapphire Coast AFL and are presently playing in the AFL Canberra lower divisions. Batemans Bay spent a couple of years in the ACTAFL and were in the SCAFL Grand Final that I saw.

Re: NRL TV Deal
I just read back over the pages of this thread to find out that the alleged theft happened about 30 years ago. I would have thought that AFL could throw them a few hundred for 8 bits of wood so they could play the game there since then. TLPG says that there is no AFL in Bega. What happened to the proposed team.

Re: NRL TV Deal
In the 1980's the then VFL was doing nothing in New South Wales. The "wood" would have had to come from the council and I'll bet they got sick of supplying them multiple times.
I don't know what happened to this club you linked. It appears that they tried to start an Under 12 team but I guess they didn't maintain the interest **** the Aboriginal kids. If I have time I'll follow that up.

Re: NRL TV Deal
The NSW Police have stated that there is no "statute of limitations" on the theft of AFL goal posts and the case remains open. They are following two leads - one is that it was an inside job and that the AFL crew from the other towns did it so they could have posts and lure the players across. Second theory is that the Leaguies simply painted/camouflaged the posts green/brown so that they merged in with the bush IE the posts are still there.
The police have stated they are not sure whether these lines of investigation will prove fruitful but they feel they deserve a point for going close.

Re: NRL TV Deal
You are a barefaced liar and you refuse to provide evidence, such as the name of the school and when it happened so it can be investigated. How about contacting the school or someone else who knows and get them to send the proof to Beau, hmmm?
If you fail to do so, I will be insisting on your expulsion.
