I get quite annoyed when throwballers ridicule GWS' crowds. Here's a question for any rugby league follower that wants to answer honestly: The NSWRL equivalent of GWS is a 2nd Melbourne side. Do any of you honestly believe that a 2nd NSWRL side in Melbourne would come even close to the crowd average that GWS achieved in their first year?

So the Storm average 12k but a second RL team in Melbourne would average 7400?

Anyway, the Giants average was 11k. Yes the local derbies contributed fans but it does for many games for the lowly Sydney RL teams also. What would their real attendance figures be if they struggle for 15k with regular local derbies?

A second nRL team in Melbourne would struggle to ever break the 4,000 barrier.

Why would the NSWRL waste money on a second nrl team in melbourne, the storm struggles to get 15k to turn up and they struggle to get 15k to also watch the game on gem #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

It's also funny how the NSWRL cant keep the titans afloat in a rugby dominated state    imagine if they put another melbourne team in a AFL dominated state

Even if you are correct about the 7,500 figure, can you honestly state that a 2nd League side in Melbourne would average 7,500 people, when the ultra-successful Storm, after 15 years, are averaging 12k?

A second team would hardly get anyone going to them.

Just look at what the Melbourne Heart are averaging in the A League compared to the Victory. Its not good & soccer is heaps more popular than Rugby League in Melbourne

gws will be a success story, look at the goldcoast suns, they started off the reason with lower then expected crowd numbers and by the end they were getting 15k to a game, titans couldn't even do that.

They were severely effected by renovations this year.

The storms have dropped despite consistent GF appearances.
Crowds for the Swans were also severely affected by the construction of the Victor Trumper Stand in 2008.

As for the Storm, as someone else pointed out, weren't crowds meant to increase once they moved into their new purpose built state of art stadium in Melbourne? Why wont the people of Melbourne embrace the Storm?
