Being a Tasmanian I'm well aware of how anti groups seem to always stop big development in this state and they have made it very clear they are going to try everything to get it stopped. They believe they will certainly win the battle and they will get the stadium scrapped so it will not surprise me one bit if the stadium doesn't get built. It will then come down to whether the AFL agrees to renegotiate or we will have to wave good bye to our team. I believe in this situation the AFL will agree to a renegotiation because it would be a bad look for them otherwise.
No new stadium would be a disappointing outcome and look for the new club.

Bellerive Oval is not up to standard to match the excitement of the Devils entering the big league.

What would a renegotiation look like and what would be the outcome? I thought I heard some loud locals don’t like idea of Bellerive Oval being upgraded either?
Some believe especially many up here in the north where I live that it should be based at Utas. I honestly can't see the AFL letting a team be based in a city of 80,000 compared to Hobart that has 250,000. Some also believe the team should just play at Bellerive and Utas for the next 10 odd years until Tasmania can afford a new stadium but that would likely mean the stadium will be a lot more expensive than currently.

I think one of the problems with the stadium has been the government not being open with public. They are currently over $100 million short for the stadium and that's before blow outs which they have said the private sector will be paying for. They have said they have had big interest, but have not announced any names after all this time so many believe it's just lies.

An upgrade of Bellerive would also require houses to be demolished so that would further complicate things.

Yeah - it will go ahead and will see test cricket and more concerts coming there too.
I'm a big supporter, but let's be realistical test cricket will only be rare considering competition from the 5 big cities and it will only likely be low drawing nations playing here. I believe we will get the odd concert but it's not going to be significant in my opinion because it's just too expensive bringing the gigs across the Bass Strait unfortunately.
I thi k cricket Australia would use it as a bargaining pin around the new stadium in QLD - but given that seems to be going ahead you may be right

AFL unmoved as cricket raises ‘significant concerns’ about Tasmanian stadium
By Sam McClure and Jon Pierik

The AFL is unmoved by Cricket Australia’s concerns over Tasmania’s proposed new waterfront stadium, reiterating its position that the incoming Devils team will not go ahead if the ground doesn’t have a roof.

Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania have written to the Tasmanian government, saying the 23,000-seat Macquarie Point stadium will need to have its roof either redesigned or removed because of the impact of shadows over the centre wicket cast by the roof’s supporting structure.

In the letter, co-signed by recently departed Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley and Cricket Tasmania chief executive Dominic Baker, “significant concerns” were raised about “the impact of the shadows cast from the roof structure on the field of play, particularly on the cricket pitch block throughout the day, and ultimately the implications for what forms of cricket the stadium could and could not support”.

“While we appreciate the recent efforts of the project team to explore mitigation options for shadows, we are of the view that they are either unworkable, in that they do not eliminate the shadows, or they are temporary in nature, introducing significant potential problems relating to playing conditions, venue operations and broadcast quality,” the letter said.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson said on Wednesday the governing body was “in constant dialogue with the Tasmanian government about the design for the Macquarie Point stadium”.

“We want to ensure the stadium is fit for purpose for all forms of cricket so we can bring the best possible international and domestic cricket to the stadium and maximise benefits for all Tasmanians.”

News of the letter reached AFL headquarters on Wednesday morning. The league has granted Tasmania a provisional licence based on certain parameters being met.

“There has been no change to the conditions contracted for a 19th AFL team licence in Tasmania which included the commitment of a 23,000-seat roofed stadium at Macquarie Point,” the league said in a statement provided to this masthead.

A roof should be standard on any new stadium builds I reckon. Nothing worse than being drenched at an event. Better for crowds to have a roof. Marvel is a great example in Melbourne.
