I think the AFL take less to ensure it is on FTA in QLD and NSW - which is why I have to have foxtel so can watch my Pies play when they are up against a NSW or QLD team also playing at the same time on tv.

I think the AFL grand final is the tradition part - whereas they still play on Saturday afternoon despite Channel 7 wanting Saturday (or Sunday) night.
They're aware of the significant short comings their sport still has in the bigger half of Australia , & know removing games from FTA would be detrimental to their sports painfully slow development in these areas
Its their reality.

Networks do not loose money in Northern States from the AFL ( as they are redirected to 7mate or 7two ) for majority of games.

AFL wants presence into Northern States and the networks do this. (Primetime games Friday or Thursday)
Swans and Lions will be shown on Ch7 besides that they are not.
Same with STORM in MELBOURNE> Majority of time on 9GEM

AFL wants increase exposure to boost Figures. but after 16 years of FTA LIVE they have went backwards

NRL will push for SOO to be sold Separate but its looking like ch9 will still go for the ENTIRE PACKAGE>
It is going to be good to see the BUGGERS PAY A HEFTY PRICE

I would LOVE IT ch7 Bought SOO & Internationals And Ch10 and Ch9 Bought NRL Premiership with FOX

NRL going to 9 games than soon to be 10 games extra 2 games per round to sell to multiple broadcasters

600 million , thats with 10 games a week for the final 2 years of the deal.
or 3 billion for 5 years , 2028-2032
Foxtel will move heaven & earth not to lose it , & 1 million plus subscribers to Stan

Very Intriguing Ch9 and FOX to battle it out for Maximum games and content..

Channel 9 in theory if they can afford it do not need FOX... But will NRL do that though i doubt it

FTA is dead - they clings to live sport as a last bastion - but people are tied to streaming more and more.

On another note - I know so little about the cricket test on - whereas it used to be a staple summer watch (and listen on the abc). I watch about 3 overs of the last test.

PVL will have no problem cutting foxtel out if Ch9/stan show him the money , its the only factor in play here ...
Foxtel screwed the NRL last time & I have no doubt , privately PVL is still fuming about that.
He was told by foxtel amount X is all they could afford for the NRL during covid, so PVL took the deal to keep them operating.
a year later they pay a lot , lot more for the AFL.

so they'll be no taking PVL for a mug this time.
They pay the AFL 400 mill a year (370 mill cash) .... for 9 games a week. for 10 games of NRL , they'll pay the same or eff off.

I think streaming is where it is all going - eventually. See some NFL on Netflixs this week coming - that is the future I think.

I don't think it should be all about money - we see the AFL taking less to get what they want (re: local teams on on FTA in NSW and QLD) and not moving the grand final time (and day) despite Channel 7 pleading for this. I think it will happen - just not yet. So I think the NRL should, but probably wont, consider other things other than money (I think Vlandy's- as great a job he is doing - is obsessed at trying to out do AFL so if he can get a little higher this ego I think will rule).

I do think that once things start going off FTA - it can be a death knell for that sport - look at cricket - I have lost all interest - and Rugby Union - has died basically.

     :(/ :(/
PVL is hardly obsessed with derpball , its the other way round. Their ridiculous attempts to copy the NRL , , magic round , to robbing the NRL's house while they're in the USA, & botching that up badly ... & other laughable moronic concepts showing they're reactive to PVL's aggressive strategy to position the NRL as the nations numb one sport & they're losing ground to him

the present TV deal is the only blemish on PVL's record to date & he will correct the mistakes he made , tying in expansion & this next deal together to maximise earnings

I think Vlandy's constant referral to AFL - of wanting to topple them as number 1 - of stating RL is winning - seems to be the focus in much of what he writes - maybe it is a Melbourne thing as also focuses on the Melbourne Cup and trying to knock that off. I do think he is very good - and maybe his quest to be the best drives him - and of course - you go after the biggest sporting organisation in the country - that's his gaolI guess - and I think he is doing well in his quest honestly. Whereas, traditionally, when you read about AFL there is hardly a mention of RL or NRL - take this forum for instance - there are constant mentions about AFL from NRL folk - every news article seems to be obsessively scoured for negative AFL content and even positive AFL content is put in light of how it is showing up the AFL. I do agree, the whole Round Zero thing was marketed terribly by the AFL last year- as an attack when NRL were out of town (not even true) - and maybe - just maybe - this is the first crack in the AFL armour - seeing NRL as some sort of threat needing combating - and may be Vlandy's has them worried - drawing the AFL into his game - which he plays much better?? So I am with you there - it was juvenile by the AFL . I don't see copy good ideas as a bad thing - like magic round - the stupid thing to do is to see a good idea and not do it because someone did it first.

I think if I were Vlandy's I would be looking ata both/and situation - maximinse earnings whilst thinking longg term about exposure and market - I do wonder if his ego, which is substantial - but not necessarily a bad thing - could be something that gets in the way here. I bet you this though - if the NRL/ARL do get a bigger TV deal (and it will be spun one way or another if it is below AFL dollars) - and even if they don't - AFL will feature strongly in the conversation from NRL people one way or another. Whereas I don't think the AFL mention too much the NRL when reporting their media deals - however that may change if they start becoming insecure about their position - whioch could be happening???

PVL responds to the crap AFL always starts , he is always good for a jibe or a quip at the expense of the fumblers
Jillian dongbreath or what ever its name was , the former CEO of vicky kicky
"we are about to take over QLD"

another fumbleball jurno drongo ..
"we will be the numb one game in NSW before I die "

100 other ridiculous statements from the singlet wearing dribblers
PVL reacts when asked to ........... & never misses

truth is he couldn't care less about the game from vicdumboh , it is no threat to RL , it is simply not a good enough product ...
his job is to advance RL & improve it as a sport & secure its future
he is doing just that

Just seems whenever I read about NRL doing something it is compared to the AFL by NRL people. Just look at the posts here. Most negative AFL posts are brought up by NRL posters - namely you obviously lol.
