I would say there are other metrics but do see your point and concede it is a good one - if thery aren't watching on Free To Air then why not. Are they watching on Fox in Brisbane? With more and more people moving to streaming/pay TV - with FTA dying? Just a thought - and I know I only got Fox to watch the AFL as was in QLD - in Victoria I could watch what I liked in the main - particularly being a Pies supporter - now I need Fox to have true freedom to watch the game I want. If we do not have metro breakdowns how do we know the ratings- particularly given the move from FTA to Streaming and Pay Tv makin g comparisons from previous years redundant. I do agree though - if the ratings are low in Brisbane as you say - this is a good reflection on the popularity - I would say that you simply can't discount the other metrics. I also wonder if AFL did get decent ratings in Brisbane then surely you would have to accept these - and what would be considered good ratings that suggest significant enough interest? Truely curious as to this question - what is a pass mark - considering it is a RL dominated town?

very little need for STV in QLD , or NSW / ACT if you're a fumbleball fan
the 4 teams get every game they play covered on FTA ( 46 games in each state ) & another 34 on national coverage .... the ratings for FTA games not involving the locals teams are .. well... pepper pig territory & I'd say that reflects the level of STV subscription by fumbleball fans outside of Vic ... very very low
times are tough economically these days , barely anyone is paying for a service that is not required & you can get for free.
Just because you follow Collingmond means squat

Thats why foxtel fought so hard to end this exclusive local game FTA deal with Ch 7

so no
it doesn't change anything ... the fumbling flim flam has very few fans in QLD , NSW & the ACT
You have said this before re: very little need for STV in QLd for AFL fans and shown you why this is not correct. firstly, look at all the overlapping games, secondly, Brisbane and Suns games take precedence so if your team is playing and not the Suns and lions, you cannot watch the game - hence why I got Fox in the first place. You say this yourself - that suns and lions get played over other games- hence, with the high amount of ex-pats that you state - the amount of non local supporters going to games as you say - the major need for Pay TV does come from AFL supporters - particularly if they don't support the Suns or Lions - which by your reasoning most AFL supports in QLD or NSW do not.

you've dribbled on about this before yes ... if 90% of FTA viewership for the fumbling game was from outside of NSW/ACT & QLD prior to pay TV being available ..
guess what ?
it still is with it available

there are very few followers of the fumbling game in these states , the only thing you're right about is those that are .... are expats

QLD and NSW get 4 FTA games a week. (with Thursday & Friday & Saturday all in prime time.)
the ratings are pretty average already without involving home teams

the Exposure of FTA in QLD AND NSW on FTA is massive and has been for the past 15 Years and figures have not really gotten any better.

I recan QLD could got to 6 teams in the Future

Ipswich Toowomba are lock in the next 5 to 10 years (controlling the BIG WEST)
Home stadium at Ipswich

Which would make it 5 teams

Easts Brisbane Are another down the track which would control East South of Brisbane
Huge Asset base and Rich
Home Stadium at Suncorp

I think we go to Adelaide next & then Brisbane Easts .. making it 22 teams
but not til about 2040
Brisbanes population will be above 3 million by then with SE QLD having over 4 million people

The Rams back in Adelaide must happen too
Then we have that national footprint , our heartland is secure & locked down as well & NZ has teams in the Nth & Sth Islands
We will be unstoppable

For some reason the AFL only did Thursday night for a portion of the season - which many found infuriating.

Re exposure - my point is - if there is a suns or lions game on that is what you get. I purchased Foxtel when a suns game was shown over a Pies game. Hence, anecdotally, I would think there is more a reason for AFL supporters to have Fox on qld and nsw than in AFL states. ,

I think Adelaide should ne a goal - a large untapped market is where the nrl should look to expand.

there are very few AFL fans in NSW & QLD ... the TV ratings prove it
before STV , the ratings were appalling
we know they didn't watch it on FTA , so fumbleball fans in NSW & QLD taking up STV would be minimal
