I think what the CEO says is probably more spin. There is no doubt Aussie Rules has a decent base - particularly on the Gold coast and in Brisbane - but from where I view it, RL is still by far the dominant code by a long run - sure, the AFL have made some inroads - from no team to two - and there are plenty of competitions and leagues indicating a strong base of support at least - but is no where where NRL is that is for sure. I would suspect the NRL would love to have the presence in non-traditional heartlands that Aussie Rules has though - but aussie rules has a long history in QLD at least so was always a base.
there is plenty of doubt ..... when your elite competition is toweled up.... made look like the ABC gardening show .. by a womens game
then the inroads claimed are at best .... vastly exaggerated
they aren't ... more spin... they're all spin

the NRL knows its place nationally ... it is the most watched sport in the nation but knows it gains almost all of its support from one half of the country
the AFL does ... not .. know its place & continually needs it to be pointed out to it
its the 2nd biggest sport & is also only a big deal in the other half of the country
reality checks like last night are a huge ... stay in your lane .. statement

The Womens State of Origin last night .... on FTA only ... rated almost 1 million viewers
with the STV replay later in the night , it would have got around 1.2 to 1.3 million
Fuck me
the fumbling got 561K on FTA & would have struggled to get to 1 million with STV in total

)
The Womens state of Origin cracked a million on FTA TV last night , 1.068 Mill .. with the STV replay later that night
probs 1.3 Mill in total
Shading the Matildas from Monday night ( the biggest bandwagon in Australian sport ATM ) ... wow , just wow
the giggles & misses got 569K on FTA & would have been lucky to get to a mill with STV added
now
can someone explain that to me ?
