Good on them, I'm actually envious of how well the NRL are doing. Wish the ARU were that smart. Lets just hope they don't go down the ARU rout and forget about the grassroots and just worry about make lining pockets.
You just wish the ARU knew what $2.6m looked like

pretty much. They are hopeless!!!

1. Id wait for the actual annual report for the actual figures before believing this.
2. If the NRL reported 144.2 million in 2016, then it hasnt doubled in 5 years - In 2012 the ARLC reported $84,104,333.00 in non broadcast revenue - you'd need to find another 26 million in non broadcast revenues to double it. Its even worse if that figure is only 145 million.
3. IF they only got 144.2 million in 2016, that figure is down on what the reported figures were for non broadcast revenue in 2015 ($149,151,000.00)
3. If they reported 144.2 million in 2016 then congratulations, the NRL is still behind where the AFL was in 2008. ($152,139,000.00)
4. As for "flexes its muscle" - AFL non broadcast revenue in 2015 was reported at $275,072,000.
If you've been reduced to nit picking the facts you must really be desperate.
Non broadcast revenue was up 12% on the previous year!

what I will say is,
since the NRL Commission was installed and news media left the NRL in 2012
Rugby league profits are sky rocketing...
that is something to think about...

The article was on the NRL, this thread clearly only mentions the NRL - not the NRL and its other entities

figures can be misinterpreted
because while it may seem as a loss
it does not account for the money being spent in the game..
the NRL is actually making a hell of a lot more money than they did in previous years outside the broadcast deal
but there also spending a lot more money also..
It has to take into account money spent on grassroots technology improving services etc etc etc ...
That's a good point and good to see the nrl putting revenue back into the game. This was discussed over and ovet in another thread where the AFL revenue was huge but profit not as big as nrl ...

Also a very level headed poster at BF...one of the few .
Also stated something that funnily enough hasn't been touched by any if the chest beating fumblers over there .
He talks about the AFL industry revenue includes pokie $$$ if you add the clubs total revenue .
But apparently it's not counted in the NRL industry revenue .
Lol how surprising .NOT .
Just like the cost of registration numbers the other day .
Fair comparisons .
Lol no .
Wookie you quoted a billion $$$$ plus revenue figure .does it include pokie money from the clubs pokie palaces .
If so .
Then lol

Think it was to do with the 50 mill profit from about 2014
There was something about it was really only 20 mill due to the way the figures were done .
From what I remember there was one vague reference ( lol prob from news ltd) that ASIC would could should look at them .
Nothing more was heard .
Lol poor dingbat has ranted about this for years .....with nothing to back him up.

Thank You Sir,
the NRL has neglected for a while, and needs to spend big in a lot of areas (which is a good thing)
and what the AFL has been doing for sometime now.

Putting back in to the game! Isn't that what those pathetic mini casino sized league clubs apparently do
