My sister in law is believed to be the first girl to play Aussie rules. The papers give her a call from time to time but she is too shy to do an interview.

One of the first girls played for Balgowlag two blues back in the early 80's made news nationally.

She played juniors swans for berwick.. I remember playing against her when i pkayed for doveton... I think it was lije under 11s or sonething. Now that is more than 30 years ago i can tell you lol . She says she does not know if she was the first but the papers reguarltly call.

There is womens AFL in the United States, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, and PNG too. France has a national AFL womens side and, at least according to AFL Europe, there are womens AFL activities in other countries throughout Europe.

"AFL Europe has female football activities in Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Switzerland, Italy and Iceland. Ireland has an established league, the other countries are participating in some internationals and looking to have leagues develop over the coming years. On top of that many of the men’s leagues around Europe have females participating."

No Fred this predates that - the first girl was actually in Balgowlah Sydney in the early 80's in the U10's - U12's, she would now be in her late 40's. I know because I played with Seaforth JFC which was affiliated with Balgowlah at the time and it was on one of the national news program as she couldn't keep playing after U12's.
