I would find it VERY surprising that the major crime unit would make an announcement just jumping at shadows - they do things for a reason if your so naive to think they would WITHOUT evidence then sorry Fred you have no idea - such an announcement is made for one reason AND only one reason to get people who they have listening devices on talking. So I would expect it to get bigger in about 2 - 6 months.

And what pray tell was my "thoughts". No doubt you'll peice together totally out of context. I would suggest that the organised crime squad who actually investigate these things every day and are trained policemen would know a thing or two - they do things like this for a reason.

Which views, the fact that Fahey ex-RL coach and player was head of WADA and CHOOSE not to appeal Cronulla deal (which they have on a regular basis in the past and was inconsistent with precedent), or the fact that the appeal against Essendon became a hearing de nova which is not the function of an appellant court or the fact that no evidence of what they ACTUALLY took was presented to the court but rather a leap in the evidence. Read the decision before you croticse my thoughts.

How does tanking differ from match fixing?

If I'm a fan watching my team and they play suspiciously below there best, is that match fixing or tanking?

1. They are not throwing a game for a monetary benefit.

2. Usually tanking involves playing players in different positions and playing kids / the players concerned are still trying to win.

1. They are throwing games for monetary value in gaining better/higher picks in the draft, thus open market would see these newest string beans being sold like cattle just like every other sport does to the highest best bidder.
Means it's a club wide, no, code wide phenomenon.

2.Usually tanking involves what was stated above throwing newbies into the mix and playing players out of position, it's also called a smokescreen in other places of society and the coaches know exactly what they are doing. They have certain games picked out each year no matter where they are on the table they expect to win or lose.

I know it, most others know it, yet you AFL fans don't.

That's where you wrong - it does go on and it's because of the draft - while the draft does a good job of evening out the talent it doesn't prevent tanking - (most AFL would agree it is). Personally I think a lottery or the highest of the bottom 4 get the number 1 pick etc etc to 4th then normal draft - BUT the players them selfs are still trying to win there's not bags of cash being given to them to throw a game!!! It is not the same thing Para because you can't quantify what you get till you get it - the person you draft could be a dud or a champ.

Evening out the talent they say, oh, is that why all the talent is heading North each year?

Yeah fuck the old clubs in Victoria, as long as the 15k TV viewers and 2k fans at the giants are ok, well screw the heartlands huh?

Thickhead.

No other sport is more ORGANISED than the almighty AFL so they and their mouth pieces keep telling us every day, yeah, they make sure those NORTHERN outposts are the most ORGANISED in the country with their PRIORITY picks and Grown Men Living Away from mummy ALLOWANCE gifted to the highest most talented beanpole in the League on LONG term contracts and TOP ups from more youthful talent being sent NORTH each year or so when and if NEEDED to keep the FLAGSHIP club AFLOAT.

Are you serious last year GWS recruited 5 NSW kids to their list- all of the "talent" can only be sent where their drafted - AND they have to be under the salary cap - your system makes it so that clubs can hoard talent in u20 and reserve grades whilst making them work for a pittance. You are really showing your ignorance Para - as for cola well the Swans don't get that and the Giants are having theirs phased out starting this year I think (maybe next). Victorian clubs got 7 of the top ten draft picks last year 2 of the other 3 picks one was mills to Sydney who grew up in Mosman and the other was Hopner from the Riverina in NSW to GWS hardly a talent drain to NSW! Unlike Paramatta who just ignored the cap and paid whatever they liked to players!
