Looks to me it's 66 tries in a season all up, mind you they did play a lot more games back then but wow, imagine Semi Radradra now getting twice as many tries as he already does, the code would be pumping him something shocking.
I remember seeing an old photo years ago from the USA when they had a worlds fair or something similar, they had a photo of the 3 most famous sporting people of the time, there was two Australians with Don Bradman and Brian Bevan, the other fella was Babe Ruth. I think I found the pic on some Canberra Museum site or something, had some info about the VFL being played in South Africa at the time at the Empire games (pre commonwealth) with a poster and other stuff. Wish i could find it all again.

Is not possible.
Scoring tries is much harder than kicking mostly uncontested at a set of 3 GOALS in AFL.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel to give AFL any cred

played for the Roosters 1942–46 and scored 1 goal then left for England and became the Don Bradman of Rugby League playing 640 games for Warrington between 1946 and 1962 scoring 740 tries.
He then left Warrington and played for Blackpool where he scored another 17 tried from 42 games to end his long career. After he retired from Blackpool, his total was 670 games played with 757 tries being scored at an average of over 1 try per match for 22 years straight, a record that will never ever be broken or even gotten close too.
" BRIAN BEVAN'S TRY-SCORING RECORD
Warrington 1945/46 1 appearance, 0 tries
1946/47 42 apps, 48 tries
1947/48 43 apps, 57 tries
1948/49 44 apps, 56 tries
1949/50 39 apps, 30 tries
1950/51 40 apps, 60 tries
1951/52 39 apps, 46 tries
1952/53 41 apps, 66 tries
1953/54 45 apps, 62 tries
1954/55 37 apps, 61 tries
1955/56 41 apps, 53 tries
1956/57 26 apps, 14 tries
1957/58 40 apps, 45 tries
1958/59 40 apps, 54 tries
1959/60 40 apps, 40 tries
1960/61 42 apps, 35 tries
1961/62 20 apps, 13 tries
Blackpool 1962/63 10 tries
1963/64 7 tries
Representative 39 tries, including 26 for Other Nationalities
So that means it is possible for a highly skilled athlete!

Eastern Suburbs had some great athletes.
Born in Sydney, the son of a Jewish tailor, Rosenfeld was a foundation player for the Eastern Suburbs club in the Australian inaugural season 1908 and in 1909. He played on Easter Monday 1908 in the Easts team that beat Newtown 32–16 on the first day of rugby league premiership football in Australia.
A Stand-off/Five-eighth, Rosenfeld represented his country in four Test matches . He made his Test début in Australia's first ever international series against New Zealand in 1908 where he appeared in all three matches. He was selected for Australia's inaugural Kangaroo Tour of 1908–09, making one Test appearance and playing in 13 minor representative matches.
Whilst on tour Rosenfeld signed with English club Huddersfield after falling in love with Ethel Barrand a local mill manager's daughter whom he later married. He was moved to the wing position by his new club and became a try scoring sensation. In the English season of 1911–12 he set a new try scoring record for one season with 78 tries only to better it the following but one season by scoring 80.[2] To date neither mark has been beaten in England or Australia. The nearest anyone has come was 72 by, coincidentally another Australian and former Eastern Suburbs player, playing in England Brian Bevan in the 1952–53 season.

It's a pitty that sort of entertaining athletes no longer exist in RL! Make for a far interesting spectacle!

In the early years of League they also had marks, the goal kicker would than got a 'free' - a shot for goal from that position. Only they had to drop kick the ball, which is much more difficult than a punt kick - nor did you get a point for missing. Daily Messenger was renown for kicking goals from the other side of halfway. Including a goal from 72m out that was in the Guinness Book of Records.

But not anymore pussy - Daily M also played Union and AF when he lived in Sth Melb. Which is precisely my point - the skill set required to score in such a fashion obviously has been lost to RL!

No, the skill set has never been higher. Rugby league just freed itself from the crap that was holing it back. And Messengers only experience with AFL (if any)was as a kid while holidaying with his aunt.

No, the skill set has never been higher. Rugby league has just freed itself from the crap that was holing it back. That point can be back'd up by the fact that RL is the most watched sport in Australia.
And if Messengers had any experience with AFL. It was as a kid in the backyard while holidaying with his aunt.

Why don't both sides just accept that both codes have different skill sets that at elite level are performed at a high standard. Trying to understand rl or ar from your own codes perspective is futile as two completely different games. If it were ru and rl i could understand more. Even goal kicking is totally different. I don't think by putting down the other code makes your code somwhow better? If you like what you do ... Who cares.

That would be like a six foot man telling a three foot man that they were similar height. Why would anybody do that?

Skill and league cannot be used in the same sentence!
Run forward with the ball under your arm then get it over a line the width of the field
