Which of these organisations made the most money?
you can come up with all the but but excuses you like , but the profit figure wont change.
the AFL, far more. They just choose to use their money to fund grass roots development, expansion, stadiums and the like. They dont need to pocket more cash, theyve already saved their futures fund.

I think I get what your saying, I really do. Your saying that the AFL don't make the same proifts as the NRL because they need to spend a lot more money in its attempt to keep pace.

What is it that I don't get? you have more money coming in but lot more going so bottom line you make less.
All these excuses about extra clubs, bonuses etc is a cost of running there business - expenses. And any money they put away for a rainy day is because they think they need to.

No im saying that the AFL dont make the same profits because they CHOOSE to spend it, because they CAN spend it. The AFL isnt putting off expansion, its funding it already - thats an extra 20 million a year. The AFL gives clubs money over and above the agreed amounts (at present 1.2 million a year per club is listed as a bonus payment and has been since 2002.) Thats another 20 million a year. That doesnt include additional assistance amounts that are in the order of 15 million a year.
Oh ffs
The vflol chooses to spend more do they ? :_<>
The vflol has to spend more dumb dumb
Otherwise half its clubs would fall over tomorrow
They are locked into continued long term assistance for these clubs & will continue to post smaller profits then the NRL Who have no such worries

The_Wookie wrote:yes, as a matter of fact they do choose to spend more, but you keep living in a dreamworld. If they hadnt already saved money, they've proven before that they can, and the league literally has no debt of its own beyond liabilites it guarantees for the clubs. rugby league for all of its money in the bank, cant say the same.
and like the NRL isnt locked into assistance having recently taken over the Titans, Knights and effectively the Balmain share of the Tigers? No expansion programming, Less spent on development and state level competition.
Plenty of AFL clubs in debt, I know Brisbane Lions alone were in debt 10 million in 2014.
St Kildla total debt was 9 million in 2014. Heartland AFL club we are talking about.
Costs have also blown out for GWS despite a grant from AFL. An extra 530 grand was needed.
And their marketing and sponsorship revenue fell by 1.4 million last season.
Is definitely not all going well for AFL clubs financially.
