Just how much have the AFL blundered on overseas spending inthe last decade

Well it's up for debate folks. As we all know the AFL are famous for blowing squillions on ventures destined to go nowhere. Look at the swans, after 30+ years they have a crowd at the game but comparatively mini numbers elsewhere throughout the city. And they are still in need of the cola to be competitive. The gws debacle, well words don't even come close to illustrating the woeful waste of $$$ there. Brissie?

but enough background Whattabout o/s?? How much moolah have the dumbos down at AFL hq wasted there? I'm suggesting anyone who thinks it's less than in the millions and millions is a fool ie wookie.
They have a two bit shoddy operations running in India and Europe which are apparently not drawing much out of the budget but the. We got China, South Africa New Zealand and several other shonky budgetary black holes running o/s for what? What on earth are they getting out of it? I'll tell yA what. They're getting laughed at
This beckons the question. Would the AFL be better off retreating out of the o/s market and out of the regions in australia North of the Murray? They've prob lost more than a billion over the last three decades to basically become a laughing stock. Perhaps daves right and it should be vfl though I rl tend to thiNk of they retract into the southern aus football league,l then they'd be more financially viable and they wouldn't be laughed at so much.

From your link
"South Africa
The AFL has contributed $400,000 annually for the past five years."
You asked "show me where the millions are flog"

ahhhh

> 400k x 5 = $2,000,000.00
Jesus Christ wookie are you the full quid matey? And if we add on the list revenue of the nab footify an international fan six month junket then we have prob another mil wasted

then their work in Wellington, wook yA got any links to show how much is going down the drain there?

oh and ur link on China spending puts the AFL in a very bad light indeed, looks like they were all partnered up, sent officials there and all and then when the shit hit the fan and the Chinese team never eventuates the AFL bolted and as you say "expressly denied funding the development of an AFL oval"
im right members :D in fukkin right! The AFL have squandered millions o/s during the past years and for what? Shit fukk all.
Thanks for the links wookie but dude? I knew it all along! :_<>

:_<>
Beaussie? Have you zipped up ur pants mate? Shows definitely over now. Your boy lost big time

Would be near impossible for AFL to grow in the USA. They have no AFL dimensioned fields for a start as cricket is'nt played there and you can see how alien Aussie Rules culture is to Americans on the video.

The_Wookie wrote:yes its also why the USAFL stages that largest Australian Football Torunament in the world. Its why they frequently use parks and two rugby fields to play on. Its why they play metro footy - Australian football adapted to rectangular fields, and only play 18 a side on an oval when played intra city matches,
If AFL is that huge in the USA, why don't they ever play Australia in AFL?
Surely they would be able to put a reasonable team together, they don't even seem to be able to do that.
USA at least managed to put a team together in the Rugby League world cup. Even though they got beaten by a huge scoreline.
The USA Tomahawks have played games against the Canada Wolverines infront of a few thousand people too.
I am yet to see any of that with AFL in North America.

The United States plays Canada every year there isnt an International Cup - its called the 49th Parallel Cup, and it involves both mens and womens sides.
its about competitive difference, the competition level is below what would be competitive against a professional Australian side. while Rugby league is content to allow ancestral connections to the country as qualifications in order to boost team numbers and competitiveness at the World Cup, the AFL is not prepared to do so.
Is probably more the fact that most of the good AFL players overseas are all expats.
I am yet to see any real evidence of proper support for AFL in North America and my eyes are searching.
The Tomahawks played the Wolverines in infront of thousands just last year for the Colonial Cup.
I have never seen anything like this for AFL in Canada or the USA.
Is still relatively amateur, but is miles ahead of anything AFL has there.

you do realise the AFL had attendances of nearly 1 million in Adelaide last year, and 780k in Perth? Thats over half the NRL's yearly attendance for their entire competition.
In fact all 3 of NRL's QLD teams only had 730k attendance last year. If you include NZ and Canberra the total was only just over 1 million, comparable with the AFL in Adelaide on its own. :_<>
So to suggest that the AFL is about Melbourne only is pretty stupid

Entire Melbourne? I mentioned one street. Don't get too excited.
I stand by what I said. AFL 's State of origin verison is Flinders street vs kings street shown on FTA to those streets only.
