More than happy to educate you. It's nothing new, in fact been happening for decades now.ParraEelsNRL wrote:Bahaha I have never ever heard in all the years following ratings about a non ratings period around Easter, good one Bea, I'll have to remember that one for myself, a great bit of bullshit.
The television networks are set to hit the pause button on some of our highest-rating shows over the Easter break in an attempt to save their juiciest episodes and capitalise on advertising dollars.
While this is nothing new — free-to-air networks traditionally rest their key programs over non-ratings periods
“There are a few reasons [why the networks rest their big shows] — and yes, they do always do it — the main reason is audience, a lot of people go away over Easter and sometimes school holidays coincide with Easter.
“The other reason of course is from an advertising point of view, because your audience declines over the Easter period and the programming quality declines. It’s a period when advertisers will say ‘we won’t advertise over Easter, we’ll come back afterwards.’ So from a dollars perspective, it makes sense,” Mr Bucklow explained.

its Australias game because it is clearly the most popular game in the country when multiple different measures are used. Sure, anyone with half a brain knows the AFL is far less popular in NSW and QLD than NRL, and the opposite is so for NRL in Southern states. What is also true is that the AFL is more popular overall than the NRLRaiderdave wrote:NlolRL wrote:Melbourne is the sporting capital of Australia, and show it again with their willingness to watch whatever sport was on TV.![]()

because the Swans rate 70-100k in Sydney against the NRL, and the NRL rates poorly in melbourne against the AFL. The 71k result for the NRL reflects Melbournes interest in sport in generalRaiderdave wrote:ReallyNlolRL wrote:the AFL is more popular in expansion states than NRL![]()
71k in Melb for the NRL opener
23k in Syd for the VFL opener
900k in Melb for a Storm GF
600k in Sydney for a swines GF

Add to that you are gauging popularity on viewers alone which is basically a poll. Members at attendances show the AFL is light years ahead in Sydney compared to NRL in Melbourne
Hows that 23k for Australias gameThe_Wookie wrote:hows that 38% drop in perth NRL ratings, and no live broadcasts at all in Adelaide going for you? We'll see how NRL friday goes in Melbourne from next week when the AFL starts playing there too.
