yeah go figure!

GWS are currently a joke, a team started from scratch only been around for 3 years and barely won a game, what do you expect them to be doing packing out stadiums?

The Wanderers have had less time to establish themselves with less money backing them and they are a doing well. But not GWS

People in the West are passionate about the Wanderers with no mass promotion. Yet AFL threw everything behing the Giants and still nobody gives even the slightest fark about GWS :(/ :(/ . This really says alot about how crap AFL is seen there :_<>

the best way to attract fans is by tinning, & thats what the Wanderers have been doing. GWS have only won a handful of game, when they start winning, will be a true indication of their popularity.

but on the Wanderer winning, its only shown how much of a joke the NRL is in western Sydney, teams like Penrith, Wests, Parramatta, the Wanderers, have larger crowds & memberships than some of those clubs & achieved this on 4 odd years as to the NRL clubs who had 60 plus years to establish them self

the giants becoming a solid team is pretty much a foregone conclusion, whether it takes 5 or 10 years, it is bound to happen

similar things were said of the swans, but they started winning, engaging the community more and look where they are

the wanderers had a head start due to the huge popularity of football in west sydney, the giants essentially are building their fanbase from scratch. this will never take away anything from the achievements from WSW but its a good format to follow

the giants will continue pumping $ and effort into WS and eventually it will pay off like it did before with the swans. they draw more sponsorship income than any nrl club in sydney already as it is

personally, they should tweak their target market a bit, i know they like beating their chests about being a team that represents the west but they need to do more than that. if you're an expansion team then you have to completely represent the opposite of an already existing team like the wanderers did vs sydney fc. the wanderers promote themselves as a working class man's club vs the 'late sipping eastern sydney fans'. sydney fc's original intention was to represent all of sydney, but the wanderers went against it and were able to galvanize the western sydney community into an 'us vs them' mentality and it paid dividends. fabricated, but it doesn't feel like it at all. as someone from the inner west, whenever i hear things from the giants i still view them as a second sydney club, rather than a western sydney club - so perhaps its something they need to work on

a good example is the melbourne heart who struggled for 4 seasons because unlike targeting a different demographic like the wanderers did, they essentially tried to establish themselves as the second melbourne victory, but in red shirts. if you want to build a fanbase in anything you have to target people that want something different

maybe keeping all games to sydney would also help rather than play games in canberra but that's just my opinion. the giants tried to hire lyall gorman - former a-league boss and chairman of the wanderers - he would of been a tremendous asset to them and would of helped them grow no doubt, but he went to the sharks instead - it does show that they are starting to change their thinking in western sydney

Your a bonafide idiot who has no fucking idea how these things work.

The AFL have owned the Swans since the early 90s. They have taken ownership of Port and Adelaide, appointing all but 2 members of their boards. The AFL completely own GWS and Gold Coast as well.

The NRL are presently running the Knights, and exerting effective control over Wests. The Broncos were floated on the exchange but are majority controlled by News Limited. The same News Limited who owned half of the NRL and the entire Storm.

Seriously fuck off and get a clue.
Seriously pull your fucking head in!

The clubs have their own presidents and their own CEO's! The former is voted on by the fucking members of the club!! The latter is appointed by the board, who are also voted on by the fucking members!! The AFL have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!

Are you telling me that David Koch works for the AFL?? Or the new guy whoever he is at the Lions?? Or the president at the Swans?? The Suns and the Giants are the only maybes, but that's because the AFL created them. They'll hand them over to the community when they are self sufficient because they have to!

News Limited gave the NRL, the Storm and the Broncos money. All of it in the case of the Storm. That doesn't mean they owned whatever they paid for. They sponsored it! They might have exerted some influence, but do you think if anyone was on the ball they would have allowed it if they knew what it would result in - especially in the case of the Storm! Don't forget also that the NRL is trying to clean up the board room effects of Super League, which WAS owned by News Limited.
