the last 4 years have been bad times for my club! the fact that we're achieving this stuff post-adp is incredible IMO...i certainly didn't expect it
now we have a great manager, recruited well in the summer
bottom line is the club focused on the basic
fundamentals over the last couple years in memberships and corporate sponsorships - stuff we lacked very badly from day 1. the a-league club grant of $2.5m also helps but considering we were bleeding anywhere from $4m-7m for the last 9 years and we reduced our losses to just $1.5m and look "set" to break even the season after....i think its a fantastic turnaround

What a clueless hypocrite.
Constantly going on about RL clubs relying on pokies ,
Yet he ignores the same going on in his sport.
VICTORIAN AFL clubs creamed more than $88 million from pokies punters in the last financial year, with Hawthorn and Carlton leading the way.
Gaming revenue has become such a factor in football that AFL boss Gillon McLachlan recently cited it as one of four chief reasons why the league had introduced equalisation measures.
The 19 gaming venues operated by the AFL clubs generated $88.7m in net gaming revenue, according figures published by the industry regulator.
North Melbourne is the only Victorian AFL club not to have poker machines.
Net gaming revenue is what the machines take after winnings. The figures do not represent the profits made by clubs.
Hawthorn’s club Vegas at Waverley Gardens generated almost $11m while its 73 per cent interest in the West Waters Hotel brought in a further $7.6m.
Carlton’s four pokies clubs took $17.5m, Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation figures show.

sport the difference
Hawthorn 53 million in football revenue (11 million from distribution)
Raiders 15 million (7.5 million from distribution)
so outside of the commission distributions, the raiders only made 7.5 million to hawthorns 42 million
do you understand the difference? the AFL club has the capability to earn money through football revenue, & the NRL has farrrrk all ability

All I see is the same hypocritical BLAH blah pokes pokes .
You Continually have a go at NRL clubs when your sport is just as reliant, but you conveniently ignore that.
******.
Only five AFL clubs made a profit in 2013 without the assistance of poker machines, according to figures presented to the clubs by the AFL.
And remarkably, one of the clubs that made a pokies-free profit was North Melbourne, which made a decision to avoid poker machines from its business model, and is among the smallest clubs for revenue.
The five clubs that made a profit without non-football revenue - almost all of which is from poker machine venues - were Collingwood, Richmond, West Coast, Fremantle and North Melbourne. The Kangaroos are the clear outlier from that group of five and, according to the club, made a profit of $1.3 million in 2013 as a result of running a very low-cost operation.
Even Hawthorn, the 2013 premier and one of the game’s most financially robust clubs, had a profit that was assisted by pokie earnings. The Hawks made a healthy profit of $3.1 million in 2013, but they are understood to have earned more than $4 million from their lucrative Waverley Gardens gaming venue, and have plans to earn more from their new Caroline Springs venue.

there's a number of ways you can look at it, if you want football to compete with the big 2 then naturally they look poor
but compare them for their worth vs other sports around our level - like rugby union then it's fine
the crowds for football are definitely punching above their weight. ultimately, crowds and membership numbers are growing better than tv ratings but it's a long term project. considering where we were 10 years ago we've done well in the tv department. do we want to stay where we are right now? course not...but it takes time

& probably the demise of BBL & Woman's cricket.
It goes alright with no competition.
Soon as it gets some competition it gets smashed.

so you going to answer revenue difference
Hawks 53 million
raiders 15 million.
this money comes from people buying memberships merchandise, companies sponsoring the clubs, gate receipts.
so yeah all those people from tv land where are they the NRL claims they have, where are the companies wanting to sponsor clubs?
