Re: RL in the POOS
What about the game, it was unbelievable," Lyon said at the start of the AFL Footy Show, which aired nationally at about 10.45pm.

Sam Newman agreed, saying "what a game", before Brownless added: "I loved the game. What do you think, will we see it back in AFL football - the State of Origin, Gaz?".
"How good would it be," Lyon replied. "I think we are missing out on something. I am not sure it is going to happen from an AFL's point of view but to see those players from NSW and Queensland put their club loyalties aside and go at it in the manner that they did we are missing out at AFL level, there is no question about that. Right now we could absolutely do with a State of Origin."
"Let me ask you this," Brayshaw said to Lyon. "We all agree with what you are saying, we would love to see it scheduled, everyone would be pumped and this is going to be fantastic and then we get right up to the old vinegar and then players start going 'you know what I am not playing'."
Lyon said: "That is the beauty of it, they don't care. They put such a stake on this state football and that is why it is such a big event. I know we have an AFL bias here, we think we have got the best game in the world but only the grand final tops that sort of contest.
"That is why you admire those players who played tonight because they commit wholeheartedly right from the word go. It is an absolute honour - a bigger honour to play in this game than it is to represent their country - and you see an event like that and that is football, or that is sport, at its absolute best and at AFL level we miss out on that sort of contest."

Well there's nothing there I wouldn't disagree with ... Problem is players and clubs pay the bills ... It's a Shame really as SOO was very big and passionate but the national comp likely killed it off but was on the nose before that.

Also, the dynamics of it ... You have 3 core states ... And what of the champs from nt, tassie, nsw, qld ??? They miss out.

Haha, they play in the affiliated comps, the best players are then selected for games against emerging nations. they actually travel to these places to help set up or continue growth in new parts of the world.Fred wrote:Also, the dynamics of it ... But it's ok, you know these teams don't exist because you're an AFL fan that knows more about Rugby League than a Rugby League fan that has followed the code his whole life.
Arrogance, nothing like a fucked up AFL fan thinking they know everything outside their stupid little game.

Re: RL in the POOS
No, I was referring to AFL .. Who do AFL players play for on SOO if they come from nsw, qld, nt etc
SOO doesn't have this issue as I think only one player would qualify as not being from nsw or qld although I do acknowledge overseas players

Re: RL in the POOS
Well it said "I think". But please educate me which players in the nrl currently playing wouldn't qualify for SOO due to playing rl in another state at what ever age they stipulate. I thought there was one from the storm who played his rl in Victoria growing up ...but that could be wrong too. I think there are players born in other states but moved to nsw or qld at a young age. But I'm just saying AFL have quite a few from nsw and qld and nt etc ... Tassie is traditional AFL area and nt too but to a lessor extent but not enough to field a team... So my point was who do these players play for.

Re: RL in the POOS
Happy to say I was wrong ... If I am. I'm sure there are players born on other areas but wonder how many actually grew up and played in those states and went to play nrl?
