Yes, the old "dont want the children to play league at a young age" so put em in marngrook argument sure is testament to the toughness of RL, the courage and bravery it takes compared to the other codes.

Given we as a society are moving further and further away from being 'tough' i'd suggest the mantle of toughest sport will slowly prove a noose around the neck of rugby league when it comes to junior participation. I don't see the trend swinging back the ohter way any time soon, and football, basketball and soccer will be the beneficiaries.

If being considered 'soft' increases the number of juniors taking up the sport, we're happy to wear that badge.

Gee I saw Nathan Buckley once ... On TV doesn't look so big but in person he is huge. And yet next to some AFL players head smaller ?? Jono brown, much bigger than Cameron smith ... I think one of the most courageous players in league has been Alfie langer yet he is hardly Huge ... No neck though lol. To say all AFL players are skinny is just, well, stupid and shows any real knowledge of the game.

Or maybe , just maybe, they prefer the sport. He'll in my sons team some kids play both ? Some kids will fluctuate between the two. Although I agree, a few kids have come over because of the size of the islander kids ... I believe in places they are now playing in weight divisions because of this very issue.

A couple of kids play union or league in school teams also and AFL on weekends. I know one kid who captains his league team and is a good AFL player too.

So not as cut and dry dave .

The other reason a parent has told me is they had their kids go play rl and returned as he found the parents to be feral.

It's also about choice. More people are playing AR because they have the choice, not only in Australia but the rest of the world.
I'm sure some more people would play rl in the world if they knew about it but obviously not as much as AR.

While the rl boys may leave because it's too rough and they are frightened for their bodies, the AFL bound ladettes leave for entirely different reasons.
