The Gabba hosted several Football matches during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games including the quarter-final between Brazil and Cameroon in front of 37,332 fans. Rugby League holds the attendance record at the venue with 47,096 people attending a 1954 Test Match between Australia and Great Britain. The highest cricket crowd is 39,874 for a one day international between Australia and South Africa in 2006 while the highest AFL crowd is 37,224 in 2005 for a match between Brisbane Lions and Collingwood.

In the same time the broncos crowds have dropped from 35k to 30k. At least the lions have a decent reason, a new AFL team began only an hour away, plus they've been cellar dwellers for long enough to impact crowds.

That applies to every team. The eagles and crows were not followed by their entire cities because many ARs fans still followed their wafl or SAFL sides.

Who cares if the lions are the 3rd or 4th team for popularity in an expansion market? Their crowds still put most NRL clubs to shame

They won't be in trouble unless their average drops below that of the GWS Giants. And it won't. The supporter base is too strong. At present the Lions are second in support in Brisbane in my opinion. Yes, the Broncos are number one I admit. And the reason why they have a strong following is because they have been consistently successful. Even the Lions can't claim consistent success.

The Lions also rose in memberships last year despite season after season near the bottom. This is their low point, they'll rise from here as their team improves.

the Broncos ...Reds & Heat are certainly .. by a mile
& the Roar are at about 18K a game ATM ... I reckon they'll push the bumbling Kitty Kats out soon enough
then the 2nd Brisbane NRL side will make the humiliating decline complete in 2018

they're still 9000 short of where they were just 4 years ago

meanwhile the Broncos have doubled their memberships in the same time & even after a horror 2013 .. it will continue to rise

the Broncos are starting to re build nicely
Ben Barba this year
Anthony Milford next year
& Possibly Cameron Smith & Karmichael Hunt as well for 2015 so they'll be top 4 again soon enough

40,000 members & average crowds for 2015 ... & continued millions in profits each year
absolutely

the Kitty Kats are technically .... insolvent 8-[ ........   :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

AFL crap... You have to remember that it is an expansion market for AFL. They have a niche market in Brisbane, are reported in the paper, in the media, and get decent crowds. That's surely a good thing for AFL. No one expects them to be the number 1 code. But they have made a mark and that's a good thing. Compare that to nrl in non heartland states

The Brisbane heat.....what was their average attendance last year? Or their total for the season!

Yes the Lions have lost some support over the last few years, to the Suns  they've also had an era of poor results which is the primary reason for poor support in every sport

10k? You got evidence for this?

Many teams have around the same or lower average crowds than their membership total. If the lions only have less than 15k local members they're bucking this trend.
