the term participant was used dickhead not club based players
RL is at around... well depending on your definition :-k .. between 1.1 & 1.4 Million
the fumbles n bumbles .. at about 800K

& RL takes gold ... again :\: :\: :\: :\: :\:

that is all

boy.. the VFL must be starting to rue using this term so loosely now eh :(/ :(/ :(/    :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<>
Bullshit. Bigger crowds and higher ratings show that AFL wins on all counts.

Rl is, let's admit it, pretty much confined to parts of nsw and act and a large proportion of qld although AFL has a large presence in all these areas. Let's be real ...most posters acknowledge this ... The days of who is bigger have long gone, sure, people will tune in from time to time on the tv ,,, sport is sport , but when you are looking at the whole picture Aussie rules football not only penetrates on TV and radio across the nation, it has leagues across the nation and has media coverage across the nation. Unless you live on nsw and qld and your experience is one where rl is prominent , you would agree with this. It's a bit like Americans think the world had a similar view of the world as they have. Rl has little in the way of grass roots support outside these areas ... Sure people outside these areas may tune in to a marquee event like so as they do to the 1500 Meters swimming at the Olympics or a soccer World Cup qualifier but day in day out support is very minimal. To suggest otherwise is to have a myopic view of rl and its influence in Australia.

Please don't respond with some tv stat or whatever ... The reality is that AFL has a strong presence in nsw and qld as evidenced by the amount of leagues and clubs and the number of players playing at the highest level. Compare that to nrl and you have your answer there and then.

And for those wanting to argue ... Compare a simple stat ... How many clubs in Sydney of AFL and how many clubs in Melbourne of rl. There's your answer!

WTF, We are talking about Participants & which sport has the most.
You ignored my post & the usual deflection tactic tells me you cant argue with it.

RL has more participants than AFL Aus wide..

Here's a better answer, Phelpsy! I just did this research now - read it and weep rugby league geese!

27 leagues in New South Wales and I'll count the NRL to make it 28 (Wikipedia)
1 in the ACT (Wikipedia)
23 leagues in Queensland (Wikipedia)
As previously established there are 3 leagues in Victoria, 1 in SOuth Australia, 2 in Western Australia, 1 in Tasmania and I think it was 4 in the Northern Territory.

Total Open Age leagues for rugby league: 63

Now for AFL my source is TLPG's website
50 leagues in Victoria and I'm counting the AFL for that number
25 leagues in South Australia
(75 already!!)
26 leagues in Western Australia
12 leagues in Tasmania
12 leagues in New South Wales
1 league in the ACT
8 leagues in Queensland
6 leagues in the Northern Territory (TLPG's website says four but he doesn't have the two summer competitions listed)

Total Open Age leagues for AFL: 140

MORE THAN DOUBLE!!

(And I didn't even take into account any multiple divisions, which would have made the margin even greater!)

Vfl are a state based organization so i would assume someone who is registered to play in the vfl. Just like someone who is registered to play for the qrl would be a qrl participant. Both would fall under their respective codes participation numbers though for rl and Australian rules football

AFL crap ... I don't think so ... Rl has no where the participants of AFL. You could try to include another game such as touch ... Hell why not throw in union lol... But that just wreaks of desperation. Buying another sport and them quoting that sports participation is a bit sad I reckon but if I was desperate guess may give it a try.

Compare players playing rl for clubs with players playing AFL for clubs. It's a simple thing to do without complicating it.

comparing club players eh :-k
coulda sworn that's what leaguies have been saying is the only real indicator for years now :-k
but alas the VFL needs willy groping headlines to feed its gullible brainwashed moronic fans...... & the figures for actual said club players don't read too well in NSW & QLD & they're even worse for growth 8-[
so....
when the VFL stops using " participation " numbers as a gauge & chest beating wank ... for growth in the Nthn states
we'll talk about real figures eh

til then
its
RL over fumbles n bumbles

1.4 Million

to

800K

Please feel free to correct me here.
FACT..TOuch Football is the non contact version of RL.
FACT..TF was started by South Sydney..
FACT..TF is owned & run by ARLC.
FACT .Including touch we have far more participants than Fumbles & bumbles.
FACT..Fumbles fans hate when their propaganda bubble is shattered.

It reminds me of including SOO & Test matches in TV ratings.
Just because Fumbleball has NO rep scene then the foamers cry about including the numbers in ratings totals..

We have many levels of RL ,not just a domestic comp.
We also have different versions of our game..TOUCH is one.
& we now count participants just like Fumblers count Ausfumblers.

You tards spruiked prticipants & barred up over it ,but don't like when rl does the same .
Insular little bubble you fumblers live in.

What was touch football a few years back. Union could claim it is a non contact for of union ? I don't by it ... If it wasn't rl two years ago I can't see how it can be rl now

Let's throw in oztag .. Or is that union lol. Smells of desperation. Fact is there are more kids and adults playing AFL than there are rl ... Rl barely exists outside its heartland simple as that. Add up the amount of clubs and leagues of each sport and AFL shits it in. I get wanting to include another sport such as touch, if I was you and arguing that rl is right up there with AFL I'd be hanging my hat on that too. Why wouldn't you but truth is touch is not rl just as union is not league
