Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
So adamj, let me pose this question. Would you rather a sport that can field a world cup with more than half of the players coming from countries outside of Australia and still be able to compete with the likes of GB, NZ and oz or a sport that can only field a world cup with countries that have no chance of beating a club team, let alone the national one and thus giving the tournament no meaning.... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM LET ME THINK
point is, yes some players are playing for their country of heritage rather than origin, but there are still MANY MANY MANY more players from other countries that can compete against the big boys unlike in your 1 dimensional sport that a couple of backward states in the entire world actually play.

Hey dummy, I'll tell you this right now. Parramatta could beat the US international team with a leg in the air! For starters!
NO ONE can compete with the Kangaroos when it comes down to it so you'd better start taking more notice of what AFL does and start developing properly before you fall behind AFL INTERNATIONALLY! It'll happen! Look at the increasing number of players born in other countries taking up AFL, like Majak Daw for example! It's happening because unlike rugby league AFL is expanding ACROSS THE WORLD!
Meanwhile in England......whoopee. 400K ignorant fools who don't even know that they are watching a majority of (as they like to call us) convicts! I didn't think the Poms were THAT stupid!

you want to speak about backwards states, start with Queensland, NRL heartland, people still believe if daylight savings was brought it the sky will fall.
its ment to be the world cup but nearly half the players competing in the rubbish league world cup are based in Australia!
the last world cup the kiwis won, prior to that the Aussies won 6 in a row!
why not send to wooden spoon winners from the NRL club season, o the world cup to even things up!

Might be a joke to the jealous vicctaards, but I'm sure the 15-30 million pound profit it makes will have them crying in their weatbix.
Yes, pounds idiots, you can almost double that in US $$$$$$$$$$.
Not bad for a sport you fuckstiques say no one cares about.
Sold out games in France and England already before a ball has been kicked.
The first game alone will have more people watch it in England than the whole Vfl finals series combined.
Hahahahahahahahaha

Ummmm, is that why the Kiwis are World champs huh?
Fool, I guess those recent 4 nations and tri nation victories the Kiwis had must have been a figment of my imagination?

I'm pretty sure that's because of the latitude and weather of QLD compared to VIC/NSW or something.adamj1300 wrote:lolpHyR3 wrote:So adamj, let me pose this question. By your logic andrew bogut is american.

My point was I would be far more interest in international comp with 5 teams than manipulating selection criteria so you can claim its a WC - when it really isn't!

Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
haha international AFL. so could you perhaps name some 'international' AFL players. And for every player you name that plays in the AFL that is not born or brought up in Australia. I will match that with one that plays in the NRL and was not born or brought up in Australia, NEWZEALAND OR ENGLAND. bring it.
An example would be Lebanon's participation numbers rising from almost nil to over a thousand in the last 10 years after a completely aussie lebanese team played in the RLWC (they all had lebanese heritage obviously). That, i believe almost matches AFL numbers in the USA a developed country of 310million. Compared to a country of 4 million that is not as developed.
And you will predictably trot out RL numbers in USA, but i can guaruntee they will rise in the next 4 years in the build up for the next RLWC.

Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
You know I could trot out several AFL players born outside of this country! I already gave you one; Majak Daw (Sudan). Here are a couple of others; Jim Stynes *RIP* (Ireland) and Tahge Kenneally (Ireland and I have a bad feeling I spelt that wrong). There are plenty from Italy and Greece but right now I just couldn't be bothered to get more. So you give me three as promised, Phy!
Dave, we all know you can't read on the International AFL board here so don't bother with that boring line because it doesn't work!

Well, Daw came here age 12. Stynes is ancient and the other guy isn't playing. But to keep it fair, i'll accept all 3 you've mention and exclude NZ, Aus and UK and only current RL players.
I'll kick it off with Tigers only. Marika Koroibete, my favorite player, Taqele Naiyaravaro and Lote Tuqiri.

Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
Identify the countries please.
Oh and I found a list although I suspect it's not up to date because Daw isn't listed. However these players were currently AFL listed players at the time of the last update;
Alipate Carlile (Fiji - Port Adelaide)
Martin Clarke (Northern Ireland - Collingwood)
Aaron Edwards (western Samoa - West Coast)
Pearce Hanley (Ireland - Brisbane)
Karmichael Hunt (New Zealand - Gold Coast)
Nial McKeever (Ireland - Brisbane)
Brad Moran (England - North Melbourne)
Harry O'Brien (Brazil - Collingwood)
Jamie O'Reilly (Northern Ireland - Richmond)
Mike Pyke (Canada - Sydney)
Michael Quinn (Ireland - Essendon)
Brent Renouf (New Zealand - Hawthorn)
David Rodan (Fiji - Melbourne, just retired I think)
Shane Savage (New Zealand - Hawthorn)
Zach Tuohy (Ireland - Carlton)
I should point out that I would love to add Nic Naitanui, but I can't because even though he has Fijian parents - he was born in Sydney.

Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
originally I said that they CANNOT be born elsewhere and be brought up in Australia. I accepted your other ones because they came here older than about 5-8, and i felt a little sorry for your international presence (or lack thereof).
All 3 I named are from Fiji and Wests Tigers football club (my team). So, i'll move on and keep matching the legitimate ones you've provided that currently play the game:
Martin Clarke - Sisa Waqa
Pearce Hanley - James Segeyaro
Karmichael Hunt - Konrad Hurrell
Niall McKeever (no info on him except
that he is not playing AFL in 2014) - Siosaia Vave
Mike Pyke - Alipate Ratini
Zach Tuohy - Ukuma Ta'ai
If you have any disagreements about why i didn't accept some of your AFL players then tell me. remember that can't have moved to australia at age two or something and they need to be currently playing the sport.
My requirements are the same as well as not being allowed from NZ, UK or Aus.
Unfortunately I couldn't pick any French players who play for the Catalan Dragons as that's a Super League team. And few PNG players but with their inclusion into the QLD reserve grade comp, and possible NRL berth in the future once they can provide a betterquality home game venue i'm sure we'll see many more.

Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
The requirements are that they were born outside of Australia. Age restrictions are not allowed like what you were putting in. This is about "born outside of Australia" and nothing else.
This new lot you put - I gave the countries on my list. You should give on these every time you post.
And from Wikipedia; Niall McKeever (born 16 February 1989) is a professional Australian rules football player. He was taken at pick #67 in the 2010 Rookie Draft, after having played football for Antrim in the Gaelic Athletic Association.[1] McKeever made his debut in Round 14, 2011 against Fremantle.[1]
He was delisted by the Lions following the conclusion of the 2013 season.[2]

Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
Actually the requirements were set out by myself since this is just a friendly banter sesh between us. Which is why I excluded NZ and UK from it to make it fair. I'll still do that because i don't want to completely crush you. But okay i'll accept your new rules. I can put forward any professional player born outside of NZ, Aus and UK that currently plays rugby league. You can select any player born outside of australia that plays aussie rules.
So i'll accept all of your ones now! :D except the retired.
Alipate Carlile (Fiji - Port Adelaide)
