Biggest superstar in their team gone for weeks, and all for a meaningless game. Imagine how Hawk fans would feel if Buddy did a knee while playing for WA, or how Docker fans would feel if Pavlich did his shoulder playing for SA in some meaningless all stars game.

It must suck following a code that is compromised by a meaningless state game where the same team wins every fucking year!

It would really be shit living in say... the ACT where your territory isn't actually represented in SoO! :(/

Im pretty sure the AFL bosses dont share your opinion. they would love to add another 11 million viewers

+ The AFL would love to have a world class sporting team attend a game and actually know and follow the game. Just imagine how much the AFL would be boasting in the papers if Manchester United went to a game and then one of its biggest stars talks at halftime and actually knows and follows the sport (and lol was a ball boy at a kangeroos game too). Fuck we wouldnt hear the end of it! just like all the shit talked about US president Obama being given an AFL team jersey, lol its not like he could say "no thanks i dont want that", and he will never wear it or show anyone either.
He's talking about the fans, not the AFL bosses. The AFL knows that SoO is a meaningless game that only exists solely to put more money back into the leagues pockets. They don't need this extra money in the first place, and would face huge pressure from the clubs not to go ahead with it otherwise they'd just rest their best players anyway. If the AFL ever wanted more ratings they'd do what the nRL has done and sell out to television networks, practically giving them control of the entire schedule including weekly Monday night games.

Fuck I'm glad I follow the AFL and not the nRL! :D
what about the second thing i wrote....

whats your opinion of that 'as a fan' and not the AFL?
I don't think it's something that will ever happen in AFL - the culture of AFL is about club football - the culture of NRL is that SOO is the pinnacle of the sport. RU and A-League don't have SOO either nor are they pursuing it (albeit they have Rep football ). But again the Warratahs and QLD Reds are really club sides now. But it doesn't really matter good luck to the NRL - I watch some of the games but the real difficulty is that it is heavily promoted in other states - but in Melb today no one was talking about it. Just like in AFL with Vic, SA and WA the RL only has NSW and QLD so the other states get excluded and you can't really get interested with the same degree of passion as someone who barracks for a side. The real question will be - if your from Vic SA or WA and you play RL and one day play NRL and are good enough to be selected for SOO who do they play for? We all know the Kangaroos side is selected from the two sides so does it mean they don't get to play in the National side - this is where the concept will exclude other states or kill off the concept!

I think the AFL would love to have something like SOO but you have to remember the AFL do have several games a year in home and away that pull similar crowds and also high ratings. But not origin type ratings. Whereas if there was no SOO the nrl would have very little. But yes, AFL would love a SOO concept like they used to have years ago when it was popular. But the nrl pay a high price for SoO in it compromises the competition proper I believe in taking the best players out of teams and also with injuries. I think soo is big enough now to take it out of regular season and play it after the season is over. Problem for AFL is that too many states play it. The two state rivalry works really well for soo especially for qld who have the little brother syndrome. Would it still work if they had enough players from
Vic or wa etc ? 4 teams ? Who knows

If it were to happen Phelpsy it would have to be in off season and every state would have to be represented. Personally we keep comparing it to NRL and trying to do same as them - there SOO series works because it's only two states - thats why I think it's dead in AFL because you will never get a conclusive result of which state is best! Now my preference is play it once every 3 or 4 years in off season and make it a bit like rep footy so the good players will want to play - compensate clubs by rewarding them with a payment for every player picked and the players - have the top draft picks in 2nd round available for any player with a serious injury e.g. More than 10 weeks into season and hold draft after series hold over a month which is 5 rounds and have 2 play 3 with the winner to play 1st in the final. That's the only way I could see it work - it will include all states and reward clubs and players. Lastly all MRP decisions and suspensions only take effect in SOO. Clubs would have no risk and would get behind it - it also would mean the regular season is not interfered with. Lastly make it mandatory in a SOO year that clubs cannot start pre-season till January that way players would get a break and not be disadvantaged. Anyway it will never happen!

I remember that when Vic v SA was at it's peak, WA wanted in. They deserved to be in as well because they were just as strong. The only way it could have worked is if they played a triangular series. But that would have cost the AFL clubs three rounds of footy so of course they wouldn't go for it. Even the NRL clubs are complaining about no SOO break for pretty much to same reason. But unlike the AFL, the NRL need SOO for the money it reaps. The AFL don't. They don't even need overseas support, whereas the NRL and the other codes do, especially soccer.
