It's a blatant gimmick and another thing about the AFL which disturbs me and any other human with a brain. Unfortunate they do it, the masses in QLD know the truth. How couldnt they, they see RL dominant every day in the media, in discussions on the street at work etc., on the weekend footy fields, in the schools, in the sheer number of RL fields compared to marngrook fields. It's omnipresent and impossible not to see it.
But alas, our more simple minded ignorant folk like to 'believe'
Go on you lil ignorant fukkers have your pie, marngrook is bigger than RL in QLD and soon will be in NSW

you are as delusional as Raiderdave, Eliagh, living in a little shoebox world!
yes the rugby in qld is still number 1 but, to see the statistics of the last 5 to 10 years would be interesting how much ground the AFL has made, you bumsniffing fans mock the AFL for spending money on coaching clincs in schools & auskick, but that is where the game will get growth,
rugby is slowing dying & will be overtaken buy the Soccer as the second dominate code in Australia, you guys live in the past and denial, but hats off for trying! =D>

RL will probably always be no. 1 in ne Australia. No doubt AFL is getting more popular, but to claim that RL won't be king for a long time to come is ignorant. Look at the SOO next week and you will see what Queensland think of RL.

The rugby codes are also looking for growth.
Brisbane Junior Rugby Union competition manager Kim Schuck said it was too early to confirm numbers, but the code was expecting to surpass last year's 8500 registrations in the area.
"It's looking like a really good year and we're looking at our numbers growing again," she said.
She said "very, very few" clubs had raised their fees this year, with most staying the same or even dropping because of better sponsorship deals within the code.
A Queensland Rugby League spokesman said the code was gearing up to beat last year's 46,338 registered players.
"Reports from our people on the ground are that the sign-on days are going really well," he said...

Absolute *********

well not really rabbit, if the AFL is expected to surpass its total of 7000, the the rugby of 8500k, it would be interesting to see the numbers over the the last 5 years.
considering that the rugby is ment to be buy far the number 1 code in qld there isnt much between 7000k & 8500k
prehaps the compition between the 2 codes is closer than what you nrl fans think?
Are you a half wit, can you read at all??

Now if 46k+ and rising compared to 7k and rising is not domination then what is, even Union has more registered players then AFL with 8k and rising.
Well done ******..................

see its just the rampant delusion that gets us leaguies
we sit here in astounded at how far this mob are removed from reality
& the VFL is to blame for it as they continue to put stories out that are nothing but manipulated garbage that hide the actual truth
no one cares about a kid at school who was forced to fumble bumble & miss in training drills for 30 minutes ... ONCE
& never will again
but the VFL proclaim to their brain washed merino supporters that this kid & tens of thousands like him are fumblers & that's that

Yes Raiderdave - Swans have bigger crowds than any RL crowd in Syd and the biggest membership and participation rates have again increased - if your going to make stupid statements how about a little thing called proof? You obviously don't know the meaning of the word - wanker!

I'm a sook, and i cant accept AFL's massive growth in Queensland
poor guy

Fancy that another AFL boy making shite up, and trying to manipulate something to suit themselves.
Massive growth, I think not, if you really live in QLD QueenwhothinksAFLisbighere, you would know people here are fickle and follow whoever is winning. The only exception to that is Broncos, as even when they are loosing the crowds are still turning up

You are quoting the 7000 which is the Brisbane only junior participants, whatever that means.
