ASADA officials interviewed staff from the club during the week and are expected to continue their inquiries in coming days. It is believed Sharks players, some accompanied by their agents, were summoned to a meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the situation. Coach Shane Flanagan cancelled media engagements and a planned store appearance as the club locked down. Wednesday's training session was held behind locked doors.

If 14 players are suspended even for something unrelated to ASADA this will be the biggest negative story related to pro sport in OZ. it's not going to be pretty unless the whole thing is one big beat up.

Latest rumour is 14-15 players have been asked to take a 6 month ban by the club/NRL after taking illegal suplements that use to be legal. ASADA have yet to get involved. There has been no statement yet by the club to the public.

I have to say that this charade by our sports ministers and asada is becoming a joke.

They keep on saying come forward take the punishment now and we will reduce your sentence. They are saying this to all codes, it reminds me of those old/new investigative movies were they would say your mates have owned up you might as well come clean and all the time they have got no evidence at all.

All sporting codes should just call their bluff.

Watched NRL 360 last night and Paul Kent from the DT was sprucing rumor and looked at times that he did not know any detail and was making FACTS up on the run....Rumor dressed up as fact i mean...............

Their was also a talk of suing the ACC, Asada due to all the sponsors deals for all codes falling through. If they find nothing then all sporting codes especially the NRL/AFL need to unite and sue the pants of them.

I really hope Cronulla survive. Their crowds consistantly bring the average down for the nRL.

They also lost their stadium sponsor late last year. Not sure if it's been renamed yet. It was previously Toyota Park.

Gees louise, this rabble already stuggle to put a team on the field. Will they survive? Me thinks not if found guilty of doping. Not a good look for the NRL.
Sponsors set to bail on Cronulla Sharks if found guilty of doping allegations

Nick Walshaw
The Daily Telegraph

NERVOUS Cronulla sponsors will walk away from the club if it is found guilty of systematically cheating with performance-enhancing drugs.

News Limited has learned the Sharks' small band of sponsors, who are being updated regularly on proceedings by the club, will wait until the ASADA process is finalised before making any decisions on funding.

However, it’s understood that should the club be found guilty of intentional doping, most will leave.

Speaking this morning on behalf of Blades, whose name appears on the Sharks' jersey, managing director Bill Spyros said he was "sticking by the club" until all details had emerged.

Blades also have a private sponsorship with skipper Paul Gallen.

"Like everyone involved with the club, we’re nervous,’" Mr Spyros said. "Right now, it’s too early to say if we’re walking away because we don’t have enough information to make a decision.

"We’ve only been given limited information by the club and really cannot say too much more until all the details have emerged.

"But as fans of rugby league, we really are hoping for the best possible outcome. Having an investment with several NRL clubs and players, the last thing we want to see is the game hurt. ”

While not all companies would go on record, there is a concern among some that Cronulla players may have unwittingly taken a supplement that had only recently joined the banned list.

This is the problem with poor crowds, few members and poor TV coverage. Income relies heavily on sponsorship and grants. Pull the sponsors and its over.

Paul Gallen, wasn't he like the NSW SOO captain for the last 3 years. If it true that he is running around confronting possible witnesses that's not a good look for him. He should have stayed well clear of him.
