Many countries refer to RL as simply Rugby and they have done for over 100 years. Go and get a dictionary and read up what it states about Rugby and get educated.

As if it's a big deal, RL came from Union and over the years, most countries where RL is played have at some point had a unionite running the game.

Funny, the game is still around even though according to all the know alls, this white anting should've taken effect already.

Fuck yeah, I have never had a problem with that, I have a problem with the way the media influence has changed all the sporting codes names though.

I grew up with RL being called, Rugby League, Footy, League.

RU was always Rugby Union or Union.

Soccer was always soccer.

Aussie Rules was VFL, AFL, Aussie Rules or Rules (and footy in the heartlands).

Why the arseholes needed to change any of this completely goes over my head.

Btw, how could anyone who knows sports in Australia (every damn one of them) not know that each have always had certain people from certain camps pushing their own agenda?

This is a plus for the ARLC, the new CEO knows no one and has no bias towards or against anyone or thing in the game, it's about bloody time.

The commission is already in place and they are the ones who look after the game now, the new CEO will not have to do anything in that regard, all he has to do is make the game money, get good exposure and grow, all the RL stuff will be left to those who know what they are doing.

A perspective of the culture is always important. Sport should not be treated as pure business. The AFL have done very well to hang on to its history. Will this guy do the same for the NRL?

I'd also like to add, this guy would know exactly what he was in for from certain types in the media, he's lived out here long enough plus he's been involved in one of the most cut throat jobs in the world in Banking, he also has a long history in a Military family and grew up in a Rugby area in Wales that is the typical working class neighbourhood you'd see anywhere else in the developed world. The amount of money he looked after alone in his current job makes the NRL/AFL/S15/SOO/IRL/IRU and any other Rugby comp on Earth look like an old St George money box filled with 1c pieces in comparison.

Why would he put what he has already earned at jeopardy if he thought he wasn't up to the job?

He stated in one of his interviews that he knew the NRL position was up for grabs when Gallop went and he stated he wanted it from the beginning as soon as everything was announced. The idiot reporter asked what he thought seeing as the ARLC looked elsewhere first, Smith replied, it was my first choice and I wanted it.

Some of you Vfl and union fans are just worried because Rugby League in Australia has finally crawled out of the dark ages. I can understand why now!

That's what the commission is for, they are the ones in control, Smith has other purposes.

the dark ages are caused by the lack of support from fans who dont attend games or take out memberships. Is the new CEO going to help this?

What are you talking about now you boofhead?

The dark days from 1995 till 2012 which was the SL war.

But hey, you already knew that but instead decided to try and turn the thread off topic as usual towards other things instead of the current discussion. Are you going to put in your opinion of that, or do you actually agree with what I posted?

The Memberships and Attendances along with TV ratings and Participation numbers are all at record levels along with Sponsorship and Media rights deals which so far have broken records for the game along with the chance within a month or two of having the highest ever Media deal of any sport in the country.

What's left for the CEO to do before he even sits down xman, the commission looks to have everything in control and certain types don't like it.

Well boo hoo, the sport that has copped shit for near 20 years in this country from all the others because it had no money and couldn't fight back because of News Limited and 9 having complete control, that cancer has all been removed now and the NRL has its shop in order with plenty in the bank, it seems some people have all shit themselves because the best that was thrown at RL failed, now the game of RL has money to throw back and throw back it will, but not stupidly like others (Vfl and Union) have in the past decade.

He called it rugby

He probably thinks he's in charge of rugby union in Australia! Wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't even heard of the dumbed- down version of real rugby.

A bloke who looked after $50 Billion worth of asetts and grew up a stones throw away from both Rugby's Heartlands doesn't know the difference
