Motorists and residents are being urged to catch public transport or expect delays due to road closures in Sydney’s CBD today for the Sydney Swans Victory Parade.

Thousands of Sydneysiders are expected to line George Street for the parade today, which will kick off at The Rocks at 12.30pm.

The parade will then make its way up to Town Hall, where an official welcome home ceremony will be hosted by the NSW Premier, The Hon. Mr Barry O’Farrell, and Councillor John Mant, representing the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore.

George St and other roads in the Sydney CBD will be closed from 10.30am until 3pm.

George St will be closed between Hickson Rd and Goulburn St, and there will also be road closures on Bridge St, King St, Park St, Market St and Hunter St.

Motorists are also urged to observe special event clearways, which will be enforced on a number of CBD roads between 8am and 3pm.

Vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and fees apply, so check signs before parking. This includes vehicles with local parking permits.

Bus services will also be diverted away from George St onto Elizabeth St while the roads are closed.

Operation CAMELOT, a high-visibility police operation, will be run during the event to ensure the safety and security of players, fans and spectators.

Police from across all Sydney metropolitan regions, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Police Transport Command, Dog Unit and other specialist units will be involved in the operation, which will take place along the parade route and throughout the CBD.

Operation Camelot Commander, Superintendent Tony Cooke, said police will be deploying extra resources to facilitate the safe and efficient running of the parade.

"he parade gives Sydneysiders a chance to pay tribute to the players and we will be working closely with other agencies to ensure fans of all ages can join in the celebrations for the Swans’ Grand Final victory," Supt Cooke said.

"We will also be working together to minimise disruptions to CBD traffic and we urge people to catch public transport if they’re making their way into the CBD.

"In addition, we want to remind anyone heading out to ‘cheer, cheer the red and white’, to look after yourselves – and each other.

"The weather forecast is predicting a hot and sunny day, so we remind everyone to wear hats and sunscreen, and make sure you drink plenty of water,” Supt Cooke said.

But of course we know the truth right Dave? It's all just a coincidence. Everybody in the Sydney CBD wears red and white and wave swannies banners all the time. Half of the people at that parade wearing red and white were just on their way to lunch to talk about the NSWRL.
