People are entitled to their opinion and RL will appeal to those brutes who like excessive violence, but the majority in Melbourne are more cosmopolitan than that.King-Eliagh wrote:Superb article there Raider. Melbourne, definitely falling in love with RL. And why shouldnt they!

Indeed. Raider can you explain why it is that Melbournians refuse to tune in each week in such numbers despite live, prime time NRL on GEM? 25k average is embarrassing.QueenslandISAFL wrote:like melbournians care about nrl![]()

straight to gem next year, they must retain that 25k average

Re: Melbournians turning to League
Why did their crowds drop again? Why couldn't they even sell out a 30,000 venue for a prelim final? Melbourne really don't give a shit about RL besides 4 games a year. The three SoO games and the GF. Other than that...King-Eliagh wrote:Superb article there Raider. Really supports my arguments in 'the changing nature of violence' thread. Re: Melbournians turning to League
It says something stewie me boy but it certainly doesnt "say it all". Nope the fact that 1 in 10 melbournites are sitting at home cuddling up with a warm hot chocolate **** their families and watching each and every SOO game begs to differ. That's right, 1 in 10. And then 1 in 5 melbournites taking time out to sit back with a glass of beer **** family and friends to watch the NRL GF also begs to differ. Things are on the up in melbourne town in regards to viewing and loving RL. I've seen it with thine eyes and these mammoth figures support what I've seen. I mean one in 5 means basically every third household had the game of RL blaring in their loungerooms on sunday arvo. That's right, one in three households. Quite awesome when we think about it.
You can blab all you like about melb being some epic sports following city but what on earth are you saying if you also claim they dont love the sports they're viewing? That they're a bunch of brain dead zombies who flick on the tele and watch just because its sport on? Do these melbournites have nothing better in their lives?
I'd hate to say the latter, I prefer to believe that yes, Melbourne now loves RL :D Cause its true

Re: Melbournians turning to League
500 thousand more melbournians watched the AFL.Yet only 200 thousand more watched the league in Sydney. That says to me that when it comes to markets 1)Sydney will always be second when it comes to enjoying sport and 2)The gap is a lot closer in Sydney.Where lets face it they dont care much about both games.

Melbourne may like 4 games of RL a year, but that's it. Anymore than 4 games is too much to handle (it is a predictable, repetitive and dull sport after all). Victorian sports fans vote with their feet which sports they like, nRL loses out to soccer

Re: Melbournians turning to League
I'd say melbourne love four games a year. Those numbers are quite incredible. It'll turn into solid support for their local team in the coming decade. God blessum.

True maybe one day the storm can get the support the swans do.That would be great. And one day we might see 2 sydney teams playing in a grand final with 1.5 million sydney AFL fans stuck to their seats. All these things are possible actually I would say both are on the road.King-Eliagh wrote:I'd say melbourne love four games a year. Those numbers are quite incredible. But Melbourne love AFL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NRL.
Problem is, they're both played in the same season.

Re: Melbournians turning to League
says it all KE. The NRL rated 1Million for NRL in their own heartland, 200k more than MelbourneKing-Eliagh wrote:You're really saying absolutely diddly squat above Xman. Well done but do try contribute next time my simple friend.

That is appalling!
The AFL rated 1.4M in Melbourne and 600k in Sydney, in a non peak hour time slot. Almost double that for peak hour and the popularity is demonstrated.

Re: Melbournians turning to League
I would say many many people in every city turn the TV on and watch the most appealing option on at the time, whether they are genuinely interested or not. Even though I dont watch that much TV there are times Im tired and just want to tune out. If that means watching a show thats not really that interesting then so be it. But to call me a fan is stretching the truth.King-Eliagh wrote:Xman I just read my signature for the first time in ages and now I'm actually concerned you might be right. The fact is though that people are more likely to watch TV to relax in the evening, than in the day when they are usually active. Prime time captures the casual viewer, afternoon games do not.
