I am bitter because we had a fairytale run in 2009, and to know that it was all ended by these dirty cheats i will never forgive them for that.
Agree it was unfair. Storm built that team and developed most of those players they should have offered those players less money and prayed that the stay anyway, maybe they would have.
You bring up a good point, the NRL needs a system in place were if you develop a player there should be a minor concession for them under the cap.
The Eels bring up so many junior players in the NRL only for them to leave or be kicked out due to cap restrictions, a really diabolical situation for the NRL.
Teams like the Rooster/Manly who just go around poaching players without doing any of the leg work themselves.
Does the AFL have this problem with teams that have huge junior nursery's but cant keep them due to the Cap?
Generally AFL players tend to stay where they are most of their careers. Sometimes they are moved on by their clubs or they dont have many oppotunities to play (other players fill their spots) so they look for an oppotunity to play else where. Something else that occurs is that a player who wants to return home to their state of origin. It is rare that a players to move on for money. Usually their own club can match the cash. GWS and GC were is a position to offer obscene amounts of cash for the first few years to a few players because most of their players were rookies. This got a few players to switch clubs and even codes as you know.

congrats to the swines for winning the least competitive & lowest standard VFL comp in Living memory
seriously that swines side wouldn't have made the 8 .... 10 years ago
this is just another sign of how lacking in quality this comp & sport has become

you said the swans won the least competitive comp in history. Thats BS because the top 11 were closer than the NRLs top 10. So the AFLs comp may have been more uneven but was also more competitive at the top. In fact most of the NRL finals were very one sided

Yes congrats to the swannies, they showed some character in that match, which was a rippern to watch. But Raider does make some fairly valid points above. The comp is at a low point in terms of overall quality. That said, the Hawthorn side are an awesome team so we cant take too much from the swannies.

competitive is when any side has some chance against any opponent in their comp
the VFL has never had a wider gap
the NRL's .... never closer
swines ... winners of a stinker of a comp.. a rancid turd that a dog ate & then vommited up .. couldn't of reeked worse ... end of

Swannies won the closest battle for the flag in my memory, with the 8th side challenging the first. The AFLs top eight were far closer than rugbies top 8. The AFL finals were almost all close. Most of the NRLs finals were one sided snore fests.
