I guess a thread should have been started with the title "Can the Swans Sell Out ANZ". We knew the answer to that and it was proved last night.
I wonder if the AFL or whoever is responsible for all that advertising that we where bombarded with believe they got their monies worth.
We keep hearing that the Swan's have one of the biggest memberships in Australia, I wonder what percentage of those actually attended last nights game?

lets look at the 2 " away" teams in Sydney & Melbourne last night
Collingdon ... self proclaimed biggest football entity in Australia
Manly ... couldn't get its fans to travel 15k's to a final...... in Sydney
yep... the NRL would have been satisfied with their turnout
the VFL... doing a few of these I'd say

So hang on, the NRL are satisfied with the storms crowd of 25k, but the AFL wouldn't be happy with a crowd of 57k, despite the tickets costing double?
As for the swans selling out ANZ, please show me any team in Australia in any sport that can sell out a ground of 80k against an interstate team.

members
lets take the 10K members in the ANZ crowd out shall we ... as at best only a handful would consider them selves actual swines fans
collinsford brought about 20K of their toothless brain dead fans up with them
leaving about 27K actual swines fans in that crowd ... for the so called best supported sports team in NSW ... thats pathetic
no members at AAMI last night
take the 500 Manly fans who were there out
& we have 25K Melbournains there supporting the Storm
quite comparable &
I'd say thats a pretty good effort
I'd give the Storm 8/10
the Swines ... 4/10

I did see a comment from Demetriou along the lines of "The AFL was played first at ANZ this weekend so they where expected to draw less" can one of you AFL types explain to me why that has a relevance when it would have been that last opportunity for any Swans fans to watch them play this year?

Desperate Dave is at his pathetic best today.
57k v 25k
Hmmm, which one is better?

You would have to agree that Friday night is worse for interstate teams fans to travel and attend compared to Saturday.

Perhaps you could explain to us why in sports mad Melbourne, the Storm couldn't sellout a tiny stadium with a capacity of 30k? Last opportunity for Storm fans to see their table topping grand finalist team at home. Where were the fans? No AFL to compete with, so can't use that tired old excuse.
National Rugby League

I don't need to Beau. I have never beat up Melbourne Storms crowd pulling ability in Melbourne, they are a weird mob in Melbourne they think AFL is an exciting sport, they have been brought up to think that way from birth, it's almost a religion to them, hard to get them to convert. Some would say a bit closed minded.
I think it was you that was predicting huge crowds for the Swans V Pies match. I would think you have to agree (though a good turn out) it never reached the expectations from you and many AFL pundits predicted. Pretty sure I saw figures somewhere else on this board that showed that the attendance at last nights AFL prelim final was lower than it has been in the past.
Just saying, you can't expect crowds for the prelim to be down just because its a Friday, pretty big event for the Swans supporters, as big as they have ever had here in Sydney and what was the crowd? 57,000, lower than in the past years.

Unless either game is a sellout how is that even remotely relevant?
Its like me bragging about the 2000 people that crammed into a local ARs game compared to 40K at ANZ stadium

Don't be so obtuse, man! You can hardly compare a suburban backyard to a full blown stadium! But you can compare two stadiums at elite level.

57k is always better than 25k, unless the lesser is sold out. The size of the stadium may effect atmosphere but more is still better for many reasons

I was shocked that the Swans only got 57,000 to there game considering they were playing Collingwood & it was a Prelim.
They played the Lions in 03 in the prelim & sold that out, so I wonder why they got such a small cowd this time. The ticket prices must have gone up a lot since 03 is all I can think off or maybe GWS has annoyed some people who used to like AFL now they dont. Who Knows!!!
