2012 home crowds

ah

the Midgits did not get near 10.8K as an average
they fudged the crowd at every game they played at Skoda ... & the last one they played at Manuka too

these 7 games amounted to about 35,000 actual attendees
add the 38,000 for their 1 game at ANZ... the last time they'll ever see a crowd like that
7,000 for their 1 games at blacktown
& 17,000 for their 2 other games at Manuka .. their crowds in canberra were like the prices in the coles add as the season progressed
.. down .. down .. down

thats 97K for 11 games ... so their true average was ... 8,800... less then the raiders .. & almost half of our wooden spooners .. Parramatta

the Raiders 6 weeks ago were the bain of their fans exsistence ... they were ready to burn Raiders HQ down with the coach & chairmen in it
the club had issues ... the crowds reflected this
but hey all is forgiven & we're on track to sell out final out down here with 25,000 tipped to turn up ..

tell me
could the midgits get 25,000 to a game in Canberra :-k
in fact 8-[
a better question would be ... next year in Canberra or Sydney ... will they be able to fill a phone box   :(/ :(/ :(/ :_<> :_<>

your pathetic team which made the finals got beaten by the second AFL expansion team in low drawing Sydney which also finished bottom.

And all youve got as a come back is "fudge crowds, fudged crowds!!!" :blahblah: :blahblah: :**** :****

How pathetic, especially coming from a code that has a proven record of crowd fudging!

Pies there is no way in hell they ave 11k at home.

38203 of which 30k at least were swans supporters and this game was also played at ANZ which is closer to the SCG/Swans then Western Sydney or Canberra's manuka..

what the hell are you talking about "becoming a worry"? Even if they averaged only 7k this is 3k under some NRL teams playing in their own heartland.

The AFL have stated from day 1 that the GWS are a 20-30 yr project. They have been reserving funds for this expansion for a decade. No AFL supporter expected them to come in an be succesful from year 1. Time will tell if they will succeed, but claiming failure after 1 year is ludicrous.

Maybe NRL supporters should be more worried about the Storm who after 15 years of success are still averaging just above 12k.

One must remember it is you AFL fans who continue to go on about how big the AFL crowds and following is, not us. The RL crowds have been surviving for years on smaller crowds, but the crowds continue to grow each year. However AFL has relied on crowds and Memberships, yet the average crowds have decreased by 14% from 2007 and the overall attendance has decreased by 4% even though there is 22 more games with the new sides. On the flip side RL is up 4% over the same period.

Your crowds are declining, GWS is certainly not helping, but it is not just them and GC, as overall your crowds are down and there are more games

AFL Attendance GM Ave.
2012 6238876 198 31509 -9.7
2011 6525071 187 34893 -5.5
2010 6495680 176 36907 2
2009 6370350 176 36195 -2.2
2008 6511255 176 36996 0.6
2007 6475521 176 36793

NRL
GM Total Ave. +/-
2012 192 3153142 16423 0.9
2011 192 3124415 16273 -0.8
2010 192 3149927 16406 2.1
2009 192 3084481 16065 3
2008 192 2993469 15591 -1
2007 192 3024040 15750

You all keep going on about the 11k average. Points to remember,:
- this is the first year in, so there was people going to the game because of the hype
- This will decrease for the next couple of years if they keep losing
- The 11K was largely inflated by the Sydney game as I mentioned

See the gradual decline in Eels post, expect it to continue for at while yet. No crowds or interest, equals no sponsorship. There current sponsorhip have all come off the back of good marketing by the AFL and because of their first year. All of which will decline rapidly if they don't turn things around and fast next year.

You still have not convinced that this is a flop for first year in

Comparing Gold Coast and GWS you can see that the Gold Coast had a better first year than they did this year and The Gold Coasts first year is better than the GWS. Time will tell if the GWS 2nd year goes the way of the Gold Coast and fall. They are starting from a lower attendance figure.

For starters the NrL crowds have not grown each year. [-X You excluded 2005 which was a higher average than this year, so effectively they've remained stagnant for many years.

Second, the AFL memberships have increased EVERY year and triple the NRLs

Thirdly, the AFL now have 4 teams in NSW and QLD and are playing 11 games in Tasmania. So 1/4 of their games are outside their heartland. Of course their massive average audience has dropped! but they still have near double the NRLs crowds despite a shorter season. They could afford to sacrifice some attendance in the name of expansion. Plus they have every game live against the gate! Could the NRL afford to expand with two new teams outside their heartland, or show every game live against the gate on TV. Their dismal attendance levels could dissapear entirely.

Lastly, the AFL have two major stadia undergoing renovations which has had a significant impact on crowds. This will result in an instant improvement next year.

They averaged 11k just because there was an outlier which pulled their average up doesn't mean they didnt average 11K. If you want to talk about medium numbers that may help you make your case. most NRL teams in Sydney get a local derby every second home game to pull up their home average crowds. The GWS got just one local derby to pull up its home crowd average and yes it was a big one but pull away the two home crowds found at many NRL matches and you would find that many NRL teams in Sydney would average 7-11K as well.
