What I want to know is how they'll spend it!

Here's the thing though - the real push up on the price IMO was the SOO. That's worth dollars by itself purely for it's event value. It's a new addition as well because previously the NRL could not negotiate it as it belonged to the ARL. Now that the two have merged it appeared on the table. Without the SOO, there's no way the NRL would have broken the $1 billion mark.

Now that's the truth.
This is a great deal. 1.025million.

The NZ rights 20million/PA 100million over 5years and internet rights 150million over 5 years.

Total 1.275million.

16 team competition with plenty of room to grow and increase tv rights in future now that the First and last rights has been given up by FOX, NINE, News Ltd.

Here are the details

The agreement includes:

· A cash component of $925m, $90m of which will be paid prior to the start of the first season;

· Advertising packages to the value of $100m;

· The Nine Network will broadcast:

o Three weekly matches (two on Friday and one on Sunday);

o Three Thursday evening matches over the course of the year;

o A stand-alone Test and City v Country weekend;

o Wednesday night State of Origin matches;

o A night-time Grand Final (7.15pm kick-off);

o The Roosters Dragons Anzac Day matches;

o Two hours of Rugby League content each evening on digital Channel 94 plus two hours of content on Saturday and Sunday morning;

o Nine will ensure that all of its matches are telecast on either the ‘primary’ or ‘digital’ station in each state;

o The Queensland In Trust Super Cup.

· Fox Sports will telecast:

o Five weekly matches across Saturday, Sunday and Monday;

o Thirteen Sunday evening matches (6.30pm) over the course of the year;

o The Storm v Warriors Anzac Day game (other than in 2014);

o Three non NRL matches each week played in conjunction with the Telstra Premiership game (which will be shared between Toyota Cup, NSW Cup and GIO Schoolboys Cup);

· Nine and Fox Sports will provide coverage of The Four Nations Tournament;

· The first 20 rounds of the Premiership will be scheduled in advance of the season;

· The final six rounds will be scheduled at Round 16;

· Both Nine and Fox Sports will work together to stage two player development academies to train players in media presentation.
the hate for this deal from RL fans is epic!

Two new points came out late yesterday
1. the Broncos will virtually own Live Friday night for the next 5 years. This absolutely shafts all other NRL clubs for exposure and sponsorship, and is a kick in thhe teeth for fans of smaller clubs who barely get to see their team on FTA let alone live!

2. No expansion teams are planned in the coming 5 year agreement.

Lots of anger on LU. LOTS :lol:

Where are those NRL fans who said they would get more than the AFL. hahahahaha

RL always destined to be number 2 in this country. :(/ :(/ :(/
Where are those AFL fans saying the nrl would be lucky to get 800mil?
You for crying out loud predicted $1.2B as a starting point. #-o

Final result, you're stuck with Channel 9 and Foxtel for another 5 years with no change to the scheduling and broadcasting of matches. Bit more cash but your fans lose out and really, is it that much more cash when you lot continually go on about the value of regionals, SoO and internationals....blah...blah...blah. Way to go ARLC. :roll:
1.025million +NZ sky atm stands at 14million PA should get 20million a year, also internet rights which the AFL got 150million.

All adds up to 1.275million dollars compared to the AFL 1.250million.

The NRL now gets $1275 a minute from TV compared to AFL at about $1170 a minute.

We are getting more then the AFL without having to put any extra adds in..... :lol:

so now youre on to $$ per minute? :lol:

Remember these figures include NZ, SOO, rep games, regionals, more advertising dollars in NSW and QLD etc etc... :lol:

How about a meaningful comparison like how many hours of TV each code's fans get to watch a week.

We'll take 4 live FTA games a week with 9 live foxtel games. Add to that every AFL fan in WA SA NSW QLD can watch their team on FTA each week saving them $ on not having to get foxtel for decent coverage. =D>

You can have your meaningless $1275 per minute with 1 live FTA game a week showing the Broncos ad nauseum, no FTA game on Saturday, and with supporters of many clubs seeing their team on FTA only a handful of times a year.

But youre getting more per minute! :lol: :lol:

I would imagine they will spend a lot of it suring up a number of their struggling teams and increasing their salary cap.

Fans wont really notice these benefits, but theyll sure notice the limited TV coverage, especially fans of those lesser teams.

who gives a frig what it includes
your game can include anything it wants as well you lame brained wombat ... but it has NOTHING else .. anyone is interested in

again
how can a code that goes for 2 hrs only .... with far less advertising then a game that goes for 3 hours
that is only popular in 2 of our 5 mainland capitals .. only has a side in 3 of the 5 states
deliver a pay day the same as the 3 hour game that has at least 2 sides in every mainland state
can you explain that marcus ?

i seem to recall you had some theories that now ... don't seem to stack up
can you clarify this please as it seems quite odd

any ideas marcus ? :-k

Sure. Its obvious.

SOO and rep games earn good money. Combining two games on Friday night provides good money. Having 8 individual games telecast per week provides good money. Having Ch9 and Ch10 in a desperate position for content provides good money. Higher advertising costs in NSW and QLD compared to AFL states provide good money.

Yet after all this the AFL still get more! :lol:

Oh and Dave, you answer me this: if the NRLs games are worth more per minute why didnt they sell more games like the AFL have? :-k

Why nnot sell 6 games to ch9 for 800M instead of 3 for 400M? :-k

I can not believe league fans are not totally disgusted by this.Channel 10 valued the product at 700 odd with contra.For that you get similar coverage as the AFL but their games would be exclusive the rest on sold.Some where close to the same exposure easily the best deal for the biggest stakeholders in the game the fans.So what does the commission do it rejects this and takes the money .For what reason it has to be asked.To help grow the game no expansion no coverage can't be for this reason.To take on the AFL less money and one live game into Sydney compared to 3 live games for the AFL doesn't seem possible little own right . It would seem they have taken this very strange deal just to say we equalled them. Look what they have given up to get the money .The AFL got the money and everything they asked for . The nrl took the cash and sold the.game as gyngall quite eloquently put it. If the AFL commission struck this deal they would've been sacked the next day .

Coverage is a bit of a downer but when it comes to money and a fixed schedule for the clubs its awesome. Crowds will certainly go up next year due to scheduling.

NRL will be on 1.275million for 16 team comp, 6 live games 2 delayed on FTA
AFL is 1.250million with 2 teams draining over 200million just to make it to half time on there TV Contract. 4Live FTA games and 6Live AFL games on Fox with 3 delayed games. Technically the AFL is on a 850million contract for 18 teams. :D

NRL has expansion into Perth and QLD, Second NZ team going forward to sell to networks
AFL has 0 to offer next time around.
Please come up with something the AFL can offer for more cash next time round i dare you Xman..... :lol: :lol:
Crowds are dropping off due to 4 Live FTA games and a lopsided competition.
The Foxtel subscription take up is 20k, 7 needed 60k subs to break even.
Looks like the AFL will be going backwards on its next TV deal or Break even at best.

So Eels, youre celebrating this disaster of a TV rights because your next one in 5 .5yrs time should be better? :-k

Youve got shite coverage for 5.5 more years!!! :lol:

The AFL have got excellent coverage for another 4.5yrs :D FTA Coverage in expansion states that will grow the sport nation-wide. So what can the AFL sell next time. A more established national competition.

Again, the AFL dont rely so heavily on TV money. They earn about as much from memberships, sponsorships, gate receipts. Even if they earnt that again next time theyd still be doing extremely well. They planned for expansion knowing it would cost big money. In 5 years time teams like the Suns and Giants will be in finals and at least holding their own financially.

The plan was well timed and they knew it. We havent got the best sports administration in the country for nothing. =D>

But I like your positive attitude. Shame a huge proportion of your fellow-fans dont like the deal one little bit. :evil:

No mate point is we have 1.275million, (100million for NZsky 150million for Internet rights),to spend and we did not have outlay any add space to get it.

AFL had 1.250million for 18 team comp, 400million of which will go to supporting expansion clubs GWS, SUNS untill the next deal comes.

Question is what have AFL got left to offer to the TV Networks....... :idea: :?:

Pay TV are loosing money, only 20k takeup.

Fox money will be less next time around and FTA money will be less due to Channel 7 failing to recuperate profit from the AFL.

So as i see it we pulled of the biggest TV deal in the Country's history and we still have 8 games a week on show compared to the AFL's 4 on FTA and 9 on Fox.

We also have more junior footy.

1. Queensland Cup matches on Nine
2. Three non-NRL matches each week played in conjunction with the Telstra Premiership game (which will be shared between Toyota Cup, NSW Cup and GIO Schoolboys Cup).
3. 4 Nations Tournement which will rate well in AUS if shown at a decent hour.
4. The Roosters-Dragons Anzac Day matches.
5. Two hours of rugby league content each evening on digital Channel 94 plus two hours of content on Saturday and Sunday morning. =D>
6. The first 20 rounds of the premiership will be scheduled in advance of the season. last 6 rounds schedule at round 16, crowds will certainly rise next year with a fixed schedule meaning more money for clubs.
7. Another Show on Fox.
8. NINE, FOX, NEW LTD all relinquished there first and last rights.

i Think the deal is great for the future of our game and the coverage we will leverage one step at a time from the broadcasters now that there is no first and last rights clause.

=D>
